Which are the benefits of having the rear shades?
If the car already comes with tinted windows, why do we need rear shades? I have seen a lot of orders placed with the rear shades.

If you have kids, you'll quickly learn why if you don't order them
The tints just aren't enough.. And the after market, suction cup style shades are practically useless in my experience. Not to mention you have to take them off to open the window. The factory rear shades are a must with kids and IMO, they should be standard on all cars at this point, just like sun visors (and why do so few, if any, cars have rear sun visors?). I also don't get why they aren't automatic. It's a pain when your kids want them down and you're driving. As any parent knows, "when we stop the car" doesn't always end the conversation lol. Seems they should have a mechanism that could handle that and fit inside the door at this point. It would have to be more streamlined than the rear windshield shade on the sedans, but I'm sure they could make one that works. Last edited by chrisny; 04-23-2014 at 08:34 AM.. |

When you are on a road tip and you spend 3 hours driving due west or east it makes a huge difference. The tinted windows helps but the shades adds another level of sun blockage. With kids, I feel it is an absolute must. Adults, maybe not so much.

The rear shades will cover up even more, so you can do much more things on the back seat without being caught. Better be safe than sorry.
j/k. But, yeah, the original tint only darken it, but with shades, it will give you better privacy and better UV protection. Great for kids, they can sleep better on the long trip.

What the others ^^^ said ) I had factory tinted windows, put a 95% 3M tint on top of that and still that wasn't enough to block the sun shining all over my daughters face when she was trying to sleep )) Tinted windows + factory shades (after-market look very silly on an expensive car) = victory for the kids comfort.

To avoid your kids to suck their fingers and "write" all over the window. Seriously, I used it many times when my kids were small and wanted to take a nap but the sun was hitting their faces. The shades do an amazing job. Now that they are older I keep them down since they want to see what is going on outside.

Agree completely, seems silly to skip them even without kids. but that's also yet another reason I think they should be standard.. nickel and diming for such a cheap option seems silly on a premium vehicle.

Are the accessory shade options available yet for the back window and smaller rear windows yet? They were available on the e70 and complimented the rear window shades. They simply snapped in place and would not roll.

I ordered the tinted windows for wife to breastfeed privatel in the back and rear shades for children to be sheltered from direct sunlight/heat. They are totaly different type of equipment although often people think they do the same thing.
