is there a way to restart/reset idrive?

I have a '16 X5 and recently there's been a couple of issues:

1. I cannot, for the life of me, get the names of contacts to show up whenever I get a text message. This feature worked great for years and now all of a sudden I only get phone numbers, but not contact names. I am running the latest version of iOS 13.

2. SiriusXM recently offered a 3 month trial, and I kept sending their refresh signal to the car but it won't work. The subscription is active and works fine on my phone so the car isn't taking it up for some reason.

Is there a way to restart the idrive computer? I don't necessarily want to reset it and lose all my settings but any help would be appreciated.

1. There are a lot of us having this same issue, it’s not your iDrive.
2. I have no idea, I’ve never used SiriusXM

I believe that you can reset it buy pushing the radio power knob in and holding for 20 seconds or until it resets.

I thought I was the only one who's contacts don't show up in txt msgs anymore. Used to work great but just randomly stopped. I tried re-syncing multiple times with no luck, but eventually stopped caring.

Please let us know if keeping the button pressed restarts it. I tried this method in my previous 2015 435i and now in our 2015 x5 and 2016 x6 to no avail. It only worked in my very first bmw, a 2006 328i.

Pressing and holding the eject and mute button for a while will force a reboot. But not really a reset. It's no different than restarting your car.

yeah i mean i don't really care, i have an apple watch and i can just check it there, but still. I hate it when things work and then inexplicably stop working.

Yeah I totally agree. My preference would be to have them on screen, so weird...
