2015 35d Reliability

Hey guys I will be replacing my 2011 35d with a 2015 35d this weekend. The 2015 currently has 43k miles on it and the factory warranty is about to run out. I have quite a bit of experience with the M57 engine but not much experience with the newer N57.

Would you guys recommend that I purchase an extended warranty or would it be a waste of money? Has the F15 35d reliability been pretty good? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

My 2014 is about to run out of warranty and I have 50000 miles on it, and so far I am leaning toward not extending the warranty, quote from my local dealer is almost $6500 and so far the only issue I had was a coolant hose leak. The rest of it just squeaks and rattles here and there but nothing major. I have couple of friends in Europe with F15 diesels and one of them just hit 145000 KM and his car is still running just fine. So I would rather save $6K for the rainy day.

Whoa that's an expensive quote but then again that's from BMW, I got a quote for Endurance extended warranty for 5yrs/75k miles, $100 deductible for $3784. Yesterday I got a chance to speak with few of my friends who also have F15 diesels and most of them said they don't think the extended warranty is worth it because the majority of warranties don't cover emissions components and that's what seems to be the problem area with the N57 engines. I'll probably just set aside the money I would spend on a warranty for a rainy day like you.

BMW extended warranty for select N57 emissions components so I won't worry about it too much.

What mileage are you starting at? If this is exclusionary coverage which covers seals/gaskets, control arms, and a bunch of electronics... without knowing Endurance, I'd say its worth considering if you're going to get the mileage out of it, and/or planning to sell in approx 3 to 4 years and transferable. Especially if your car has a lot of optional equipment or you are limited/non DIY.

My 2014 x5 35d has 79k miles (owned since 60k miles) been really good so far. Though I did a full service when I purchased it (changed all filters and fluids). I believe it will run fine if you maintain it properly. However once the emission system begins to give me problems and it if it cost more then deleting it, I’ll probally remove it and flash Ecu.
