Disclosure Notification + Discounting

Fellow BMW x5m/x6m owners:

I am currently in the process of purchasing a used x5m. The vehicle is supremely discounted (roughly 26K) with only 2K miles on it.

My question is what sort of problems could I run into with purchasing the vehicle? I suspect this vehicle was used on the Track at the PCD, thus the discount. However CA is saying it was used by BMW Execs/Shuttling PCD customers. I know that's not true, as I am part of the Marriott Ownership Group on Parkway (Greenville), and the X5's that are allocated to us for shuttling BMW bound customers are x5 35i's. Either way please read on:

The CA said he must disclose to all buyers some notification from BMW. The contents of the disclosure are as follows:

"The vehicle describe above has been repaired and/or refurbished by BMWNA or an authorized BMWNA repair center as described below. Any dealer refusal must be performed by phone to the regional office within 48 hours of the date and time above and followed with a letter...(8/29/2016).

Damage Type - Vehicle Usage
Repair Description - Without repair
Total Repair Amount - $0.01
Repair Location - Entire Vehicle
Part - Driving Program - cannot CPO/2OP"

So, what's 2OP? And assuming that's the vehicle has been aggressively driven is it prone to rotor warping? Or suspension issues? Or is that the x5m was driven as it was supposed to be (aggressively) and can stand the test of time. The dreaded "clunking" noise problem a lot of x5m owners have, seems lightyears away of a concern given this vehicle's driving history.

Any help/advice would be greatly beneficial in my decision making process.

Oh man, that would be way too scary for me. I'd rather spend a little more for peace of mind.

Oh man... I know that when I drove the X5M at the Performance Center, I was NOT kind to it. That said, the car took a beating and kept going, didn't miss a beat.

That said... BMW will not certify the disclosure cars, and there is a reason for that. I agree that spending a little more for peace of mind would be my preference.

I wasn't kind on my car at the PCD either. At all. I should have apologized BEFORE I started driving. Those cars take a beating.

That said, if OP gets a $110K car for $84K, it might not be a bad deal.

I talked to the guys at the PCD, those cars get serviced weekly, if not every day. If something's broken, it gets repaired immediately and with parts from the main plant.

I might be more concerned with higher miles, but for 2000 miles, it might be worth it.

Those cars usually come loaded too.

^ Exactly my thought. It's DECKED out 117K MSRP. CA said they don't "haggle" on price, and if there's any movement they can do, it would be a couple of 100 dollars.

Pricing for this vehicle is deeply discounted in the light of other comp sales in the market -- PLUS most of the colors are DG + MR (not my cup of...please don't kill me ).

As for CPO, it's been pretty hard to come across those. Most of the x's I've come across are not certified.

Which triggers my curiosity. Anyone know why it's so freaking hard to come across CPO x5m's?

Why don't you just purchase an extended warranty then? Covers up to 7 yrs/ 100k miles.

If BMW is not willing to CPO the vehicle or even extend the vehicle warranty, you should pass unless you have disposable money saved up for future repairs. Just my 2 cents.

+1. A great price is one thing, but not having any warranty protection is another.

Read the rest of the forum. It's clear -- future repairs are inevitable and within the customary warranty period. You will end up paying the same in the end.

I might consider it with the warranty. I would not consider it without one.

Heh at first I read it as the vehicle costs 26k and I was thinking, shit for that price it would be worth it even if you only get 20k miles out of the thing.

I wouldn't.. Not enough savings to outweigh the risks on a car that is really expensive to fix out of warranty.

I guess it would also be fair to question if you have 15k lying around in case something breaks?

because if you're looking for a cheap x5m, you need the "in case of shit happens cash" lying around too.

frankly, if i am spending that much money, I want the warranty, I can go get a brand new porsche macan gts for that cash, not to mention plenty of other new cars out there.

5yrs/75k for $5059 is what they offered me. Current warranty in place goes till 4/17/19. I was advised to purchase the warranty right before the factory warranty expires.

As you mentioned, it's decked out, but do you want all those options? You could get a new one for about 8% off with just the options you want. I think mine came out to 107 and I paid 98k.

I personally would not touch this car given the warranty situation, this thing makes enough squeaks and clicks that it will for sure be in the shop at some point.

Buy the car and sell it when the warranty is up and upgrade! You are taking the biggest depreciation hit right off the bat now. If you want to keep long term, you can't touch this car. If you are comfortable dumping it in 2.5 yrs, you will probably do just fine.
