I was able to pre-order my winter setup from the local dealer using the part numbers specified earlier. They should be here around the first week of Oct. Hopefully this takes care of the winter worries

I wanted to get the grey ones, but didn't want to deal with the extra cost of creating my own set.

Total cost was around $4300

I got the Pirellis as well. Have had them before. Great 21 inch winter tire for our trucks. Dont expect to climb snow covered mountains or plow your street but at least the truck is driveable throughout the winter. I also like the runflat option since its the wifes DD.

Did you look at any other Vossen offerings? Do you know if any of their other 20" offerings will work with our cars?

I didn't look at any of their cast wheels, but, if the VFS2 fits I imagine the VFS1 will as well.

All of their forged options should work too as they are custom fitments.

Thanks deathray. I've had Vossens before and think they are great wheels (stylish and strong). I look forward to seeing photos of yours when you get them.

Given the supply issues mentioned here for the BMW rims, I will definitely keep them in mind. Thanks for the info.

ACSchitzer isn't offering 21'' AC1 rims
as there are no winter tires in 325/35/20 available also the OEM 11,5J 611M rear rim isn't an option (winter set has 10,5J rear rims...)
so finally decided to order a set of 612M + Pirelli 285/35/21 & 325/30/21

Check Tire Rack. They just released winter setup for our 21" wheel size.

I had 2 E70 X5s before. You really don't need true winter tires or wheel setup. Contis DWS are more than enough for the job on an AWD vehicle. I want a set of OEM 20s just to run DWS staggered.

yes - 21'' isn't the problem - there the staggered ones are available (285/35/21 & 325/30/21)
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...r=21&zip-code=

I was also looking for staggered 20'' - there the situation is different:

1) the standard summer OEM 20'' are 10Jx20 at the front and 11.5Jx20 at the rear equipped with 285/40/20 & 325/35/20

2) the OEM winter tire set is using 10Jx20 at the front (so obviously the same as summer) but 10.5Jx20 at the rear and is equipped with 285/40/20 on all 4

3) for F16 BMW offers staggered ones (10J & 11J - 275/40/20 & 315/35/20) - but as we know the rims don't fit on our F86s and these tire sizes are also not approved by BMW for F86

4) so I checked to order the 1) summer OEM 20'' and equip it with 285/40/20 front and 325/35/20 rear - but the problem is that there are no winter tires available in 325/35/20

see Tire Rack: just 1 summer tire: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/TireSe...r=17&zip-code=

also my dealer confirmed that there is no winter tire available in this size

conclusion: 285/40/20 on all 4 or OEM summer with 285/35/21 & 325/30/21

Your conclusion is incorrect.

You can run 1 width size smaller on OEM 20s, not a problem. 275/40/20 and 315/35/20 will fit perfectly on OEM X5M/X6M 20s without any issues. You can mount 315 on 10.5-12.5" wide wheels. Not sure what you mean by "not approved?" They're approved by the tire manufacturer and running the same size as the F15/F16 20s will put you the same rotational diameter front/rear. As long as the front and rear have the same rotational diameter it will not trip any MDM/DSC errors.

The OEM F15/F16 wheels also have 74.1 inner bores ans similar offsets. It should fit as those guys run OEM X5M/X6M OEM wheels. You can add spacers if needed to better clear our larger calipers, but not required.

Just from technical side you are correct - but there is a (at least here in Austria) big BUT:

If the sizes don't exactly fit to the COC issued by the manufacturer (not the tire but the car manufacturer) you are simply not allowed to use it except you get a special permit issued by a test institute - and also my dealer told me that they will not "officially" mount that dimension as it is not "officially" approved by BMW (as it is not stated in COC - naturally they "should work" and "there shouldn't be any problem" BUT...
Due to this 2 points it's not an option for me to mount that size...

Gotcha, then your conclusion is only specific to the EU countries. The U.S. doesn't enforce tires size for cars. That's why you see those wacky stretch tires on rice burners, eeew.

Only enforcement is you get a ticket if you spin out in the winter running summer tires or driving with bald tires. Even that no one enforces it. Cops got real crimes to worry about here in the U.S.

I think a lot of cars driving around in the states would be seized by our police immediately

Majority of them would. The rules/regulation on cars is terrible. Driving with no headlight? That is fine. Brakes gone and bald tires? It is okay! Blowing blue or white smoke? That is fine too.

Only new cars after a certain year (depending on state) don't have to get any emissions check, if you have an older car and don't pass, they waive the car and it becomes exempt from having to take the test for at least another two years.

A bulletin just came out yesterday for the dealerships that shows the part numbers for the winter tire sets for these vehicles is the same as last season (spring), and will be available for purchase in the next few weeks. ETK shows the part numbers for the rims alone used in making these sets as being:

front: 36-11-2-284-654 (only for winter tires)
rear:36-11-2-284-655 (only for winter tires)

Part numbers for the whole package being:

front: 36-11-2-365-424
rear: 36-11-2-365-425

The BMW ETK system lists two part numbers, and types for the 611M rim, the same style rim used in making these sets. One is listed as "only for winter tires," and the other as two toned (polished faces, grey background). One style of this rim, assumable to be the dark grey, is listed as "only for winter tires."

As of a few weeks ago, a warehouse in Germany had a stockpile of the dark grey 611M rims. I was asked by my parts guy if I wanted to pay the expense of ordering just the dark grey rims, and put my own tires on them, or if I wanted to wait and see if BMW used them in these year's winter tire sets. I elected to wait for the bulletin for this season's winter tire packages to come out, which is the one I mentioned in the beginning of this post.

My parts guy is ordering me a set as soon as they are available to be ordered, which should be end of this month.

I ordered the BMW winter tire package for my F85 X5 M this afternoon. The part numbers were the same as what they were in the spring of this year. My set will be here Monday 9/21/15. I will take photos when they arrive, so everyone can see what the rims look like, and if they have changed from the photos AwesomeM3 posted of the set he ordered earlier this year.

I am in the middle of a vacation, so I didn't spend a ton of time this afternoon on the winter tire project. What I learned during a very brief phone call is they are available for order now, the ones I ordered today will be at my dealership Monday, and I was told the part number information is exactly as I posted it on here a couple days ago. I will ask Monday, when I pick the set up, where they shipped from.

Mine just came in this morning. The ETK showed the new part numbers that superseded the old ones and we ordered the set. They look the same but the rears and fronts are actually different (different offsets) just like the M6 and M5 winter wheels. This is because the stock setup is staggered I assume. My parts guy is taking a look at them now to see what the finish is like. The older ones were the black chrome color. The pictures of the new ones show them as machined and polished in the ETK. Mine are indeed the dark finish, complete with tires and TPMS sensors all installed. yay looking forward to a fun winter!

Mine came in yesterday. Going to pick them up tonight or tomorrow morning. Will post some pics after I get them.

As the timeline was somewhat undefined, I'm glad to see these made it in before the first snowfall.
