YES!!! That's awesome. The anti-squeal paste I understand, but curious about what they did to the pads and rotors? How many miles do you have on this set? Like mentioned above, my squeal is only there on slower, low pressure stops, but I'd still like it gone. So I may have the dealer do this as well.

That and, of course, put in whatever spacer is required to keep me from hearing that horrible "no I ain't wheel bearings but I sure sound like it" noise. I emailed one service dept and heard nothing back (I even included photos of the service order from the other thread documenting the issue), so I think it's time for a new service dept. I'll probably bring it in for both things. PITA...

I have 10k on my car. The pads and rotors are barely worn so they didn't have to replace them. They sanded the pads, edge of the pads, and machined the rotors face. It vary from dealer to dealer on how they do it. At my dealer, there's only one guy who knows how to do it perfectly so he's left to do both of my cars.

Apparently the squeal is cause by brake dust trapped between the pads and rotors (causing high frequency vibration, like how a violin makes sound), so sanding the edge allow it to catch less and let the dust out. Roughing the pads to reduce the vibration frequency that causes the squeal and for the pads to seat better.

If squeal is vibration caused by dust build up, aren't there sprays that work?

Really? I thought CCB would have less squeal. Damn.

Well, although the brake squeal isn't permanently eliminated by bedding in the brakes, I have noticed that I can at least make the noise go away for a few days by a few hard stomps on the pedal in succession. I know this technique has worked for other vehicles and I think it was mentioned above. I guess I'll just be driving around and periodically doing "ABS testing" every week or so...

When my X5 M was in getting a speaker replaced last week, the tech opened a PUMA case to use SIB 34 06 13, it is essentially removing the sharp edge of the brake pad and creating a rounded edge which can help with brake squealing under light application, on NON-M cars, on my M car. BMW Warranty responded to the dealership within 30 minutes and said the tech could absolutely use it for the M car, but it wasn't designed for it, so if the noise came back it wasn't their fault.

My car has been sneak up on you quiet ever since. My service advisor said that if enough people have their dealerships request this, BMW Warranty will most likely create a separate SIB for the M car brake squeal. Chamfering the brake pads apparently increases air flow between the pads and the rotors, as well, helping clear the fine brake dust that is one of the culprits in making the squeal.

Fantastic! What's a "PUMA" case? I'll request this, as well as the spacer wheel clickety-clack fix once I hear about how that has been working for folks. PS I had to have a speaker replaced in my B&O - it was clearly faulty or blown from the factory. Single speaker, mid range, passenger side rear door.

a PuMA case is a case a tech/SA/Service Manager opens when they want to do something and get it covered under warranty, but need BMW approval. The other kind of PuMA is where they have no clue whatsoever, and need a BMW higher-up to come figure it out for them. They are easy to open, and BMW is responsive to them.

I'm fairly certain the acronym means Problem and Measures management Aftersales or in German: Problem und Mebnahmenmanagement Aftersales.

What was done to my car is basically the same thing the JNoSol had done to his car, which seemed to work for him, as well.

I took it to the dealer, they sanded down the edge of the pads to let dust out and they machined the rotors. Added anti-squeal paste on the back of the pads. It's been 500miles and I'm squeal free for both the M5 and X5M.

I would like to replace the pads with Carbotech 1521. No dust and less noise.

Would just changing the pads also cure squeal? Or is it the rotors as well, hence you getting those machined.

Carbotech 1521 pads replacement should reduce noise and eliminate brake dust.

Just sent an email to my Service Advisor to see if I can get my X5M in to try to fix the annoying break squeal. Thanks to everyone who offered advice!

Thanks all. I'm going to do this too. I'm tired of living with the noise. And having to do crazy braking scenarios routinely.

For those going in for the brake pad chamfering like JNoSol and I had done, also make sure they apply the anti-squeal paste, they did that to my car when they did the brake pads, and I believe they did it to his as well.

I understand the complaints but the performance level these vehicles are at could be considered at race car levels with power and the amount of weight it has to haul down. With brakes it's usually pretty much a given that serious performance will come with some sacrifices. The M brand is supposed to be the ultimate in performance for BMW. If it is a luxury car you want they make models more akin to it.

Not trying to lambaste you guys over it. Just saying... The cars at the track have high performance brakes as well and they all squeel like a garbage truck.

It's pretty much how these things work. Want real serious track ready car? You should consider there are probably going to be sacrifices. Im surprised they have done as well as they have bringing as much luxury along with the performance level without very intolerable consequences.

I have the same issue with my Range Rover Sport

I dont consider it a sacrifice, hearing noise that is. It really is unbearable for me, perhaps my squeel is a bit different than others. Its higher pitched, unlike my F10 M5 and its on every slow stop, even on the slightest tap. I actually will not drive it anymore, I told my wife its on her to get us to 1200 and into the shop. My only consolation is that there is a fix for it.

Of all my so called high performance vehicles (e46M3, Supercharged Range Rover sport, C63, F10 M5 and now my 911 GTS) I have heard nothing that compares to this so consistently - if it was intermittent, i could deal with it.

Even on my M5, it wasn't all the time, and it would go away with some bedding or a wash.

Sweet. After 600miles, squeak is coming back.

I just emailed Carbotech on where to buy 1521 brake pads. Less dust and less squeal.
