Test car came in about a week ago to get everything installed and is currently undergoing field testing / endurance testing. There is another thread started on that one.

I've been testing about 250 miles now, a mix of highway, city and 2 launches and the car has been flawless without any issues. This is all on 91 octance too.

I guess this intake is taking months instead of weeks.
-Supplier issues? -testing is not getting the hp / torque that were hoping for? -costs to build is too high? Anybody hear anything? DISCLAIMER (PLEASE READ): This post is strictly intended to be a photo teaser. No details are available at this time. Don't bother asking price, availability (although I think its safe to say we can talk in terms of weeks and not months at this point), pre-order details, performance gains, or any of that type of information as it is not available. |

Right now building up stock on the CF so when released we can actually satiate the volume we expect. Problem is carbon production is INCREDIBLY slow. Learned our lesson with the exhaust on the platform so don't want to have the same ordeal on the intake where we have great demand but not initial units and a back order runs rampant. At present looking like a mid-late October release. Want it out before SEMA. |

cool, thanks for the quick reply.
I hate adding bolt ons before winter. Will probably have to buy it immediately and then install it in the spring, then enjoy the horsepower increase. |

I believe this bolt-on will be like an extra accessory to complete a certain look. I know some people on the forum mentioned that they tend to stay away from CF.
If what i said did not make sense, Think of its as the pair of Fendi shoes that looks good with a clutch bag that your significant other once told you that they match nicely I know I would love one... but then i will have to check if I still have to buy that shoe first to make sure there won't be a sh*t storm coming my way |

I have been racing for over 25 years now and know that a single bolt on does work as well as a combination of bolt ons. I have a tune and catless down pipes, waiting to do the full exhaust when I get the air cleaners, as I want more air in before I need to let more air out. If I was to buy a CF air assembly just because of the looks, I would then have to drive with a removed hood. Why would I spend the money on something that no one sees? |

Agree that just intake won't do much, but a series of mods will capitalize on the investment.

It's all about eliminating pressure drop. We use a digital manometer and tap the inlet of the air filter element. Then make a dyno hit (not the best ) or a 1/4mile pass and log the pressure drop. If you do not have any pd, it does not matter what you bolt on, it's for aesthetics only. If you have pd and can eliminate it you will increase power. All depends on how much drop you have.

As I have stated before I would be shocked if anyone else bothered to tackle the intake system on this vehicle given its uniqueness. Its too far different from the norm. Correct. The Dinan filters would not fit in the stock box. The filters without the lid on them (an open design) throws codes all over the place so that is a non-starter as well. |

The F10 M5 guys have been doing this without any issue so its surprising that you are saying the X5M can't run the same setup. Alan

Heatsoak isn't an issue at all as I've touched these while sitting at idle as ambient air is flowing through them. They will get hot to the touch once I shut the engine off, but once moving and watching IAT's on the Torque app, the pipes return to ambient quickly. Most N54 intakes put the filters directly above the engine between the intake manifold and shock tower. BMS has done testing for their dual cone intake and has shown that intercooling makes the heat soak irrelevant, so point is I'm not concerned and it sounds awesome, much like MSR...something you'll never get with an enclosed box design.
P.S. - this intake routing is a duplicate of the factory BMW routing used on the 4.8 engines. If anything, a big box is going to hold more hot air as heat rises vs a couple tubes.

Everyone at some point resorts to this question. If the filter was low down and behind the bumper, you went into a puddle at full speed and didn't let off the gas, then you'd have a valid concern. Seeing as at most all you're getting is water spray (water injection is based solely on water spray) the odds of damaging water ingestion are slim to none. Nevertheless I do have K&N water socks overtop the B&M filters I'm running. I live in Seattle where it rains 9+ months outta the year, I drive my X5M (twin turbo), 740iL6, 328 and Harley F150 (supercharged)...all of which have an exposed cold air filter of some type, all of which I drive hard and haven't had anything happen in years.
