How does a lease takeover work when Multiple Security Deposits have been put down?

I'm at $1,241 including 6% monthly tax with 7 MSDs paid down, 27 payments left with about 30,000 miles left on the lease.

May decide to exit the lease early if not at too much of a loss. I might have to go for a totally different vehicle (Range Rover). I love the X5M, but find myself driving my 2012 LR4 more often. My 2015 Ford Platinum gets no road time at all. Would like to consolidate from three to two daily drivers by going with possibly a RR or 2017 Raptor and then something sporty. Any input?

I went in and planned to lease and go the MSD route ($9100). Ended up financing (72 months) and think I come out ahead. Here's how it added up.

Finance (1.9%) vs lease
- $10K down (similar to the MSD)
- Finance payment - $50 higher per month - $2K over 36 months
- Finance buyout $45k after 36 months, lease has $63k

So with the finance deal, at the end of 36 months I simply owe $45k. So I can keep making payments, trade and get the equity out, etc.
For a lease, I make $2K less in payments, get $9K back, and can buy the car for $63K.

Make sense to anyone else?

FWIW, $113K MSRP, got it for under $104K including loyalty cash and USAA rebate.

I think a $1,950 payment on a lease with MSD is quite high or I am missing something since you got your car with a good discount??.

I leased a $117K car with 7 MDS for $1,168/month. I still have the option to purchase the car (cash or finance) once the lease is done. Allowing me to compare market value in 3 years and make sure no factor outside of my control impact the future value of the car (accidents, paint retouch, etc). BMW Financial is lending money on leases with the 7 MDS at about 2.1% so there is not a big difference, so with the lease I think you come on top. For me is a no brainer the lease. You always lease depreciating assets.

If your lease payment was $1,950/month I believe you could potentially had work better terms on the lease, although is confusing since you work a good selling price (104K), you lease should have been much lower. If you really only had a $50 difference and you are currently paying 2K/month there seems to be about $780/month difference in your payment and mine (lease). When you multiply the difference by 36 is $28K.

Or I am missing something?

Ah, $50 / month difference over 36 months is $1800 over the 3 year period. I'm at $1300 per month. Lease was about $1250 @ 15k miles per year. Dealer told me that X5M residual is based on the X5...and in reality the X5Ms tend to hold their value better.

You are right that there's a risk. At the end of the lease, regardless of condition/circumstances, you turn the car in.

Understood. Was under the impression you had mentioned your payment was $2,000 or $1,950 for the lease.

I dont think is a bad idea. This cars are so amazing I think I will probably want to keep it longer than those 36 months. Either way enjoy your ride.

Looking at a 2017 X6M Lease (10K annual miles). MSRP: $116,500. Sale Price: $109,997. Gross Cap Cost: $111,221. Carrying $10K equity in a trade (pretty happy they agreed, as vehicle is sight unseen). Out of Pocket Cash: $5K. Adjusted Cap Cost: $96,819. Monthly Payment $1050.

I've seen a handful of posts that most are seeing 8% discounts off MSRP, so in my case about $107K. It's a numbers game as you know. Give a little more in my trade, take away a little less in discount off the MSRP.

Nevertheless, thoughts / suggestions?

Update - did some more negotiating with the dealer. Got the X6M at invoice, as they reduced my trade, so I pushed them to decrease the sales price to help close the gap. I'm still making $7K on my trade (still happy, as they did a car fax and found someone hit me in a parking lot while unattended, damage was less then $500, but still comes up on CarFax).

MSRP: $116,495
Sale Price: $108,947
Gross Cap Cost: $110,171
DownPayment ($15K - $7K Trade Equity / $8K out of pocket)
Net Cap Cost: $94,507
Annual Mileage: 10K
Monthly Payment: $995
Residual: 58% - $67K

But the residual is based off of the percentage of MSRP so in essence that number can't go up or down, it stays the same therefore reducing the capitalized cost if you get a discount on top

Don't put down MSD's if you believe there is ANY chance that you will want to exit your lease early via a lease trade / transfer. No one is going to give you thousands of dollars to reimburse you for multiple MSD payments to get it back at the end of the lease, particularly when you're competing with other folks who are lease trading without that stipulation.

Yes that's a great point to mention. I love those Swapalease adds that say "Only $9100 out of pocket but you get it back at the end of the lease" especially when there are other cars with only marginally higher payments where the out of pocket is $0. Kind of a tough sell!

Need advice on this deal please as I need to decide if I should pull trigger:

2016 X6m, sticker price $109,395.
Sale price $94,525
36/15 lease payment $1333.04 with $4827.53 due at signing (3k down +first payment and some other fees)
Residual is 51%

What do you guys think? Should I push for more? Dealer is saying he can't go any lower.
