Roof static weight limit

Hello guys! Cannot find anywhere the roof static weight limit for the X5(f15). The dynamic limit is 220lbs for the OEM roof racks. Help!

I have no clue as to the difference between static weight limit and dynamic weight limit and what if any difference that is from the roof’s load capacity listed in the owners manual. But the latter...roof load capacity...is listed as 220lbs/100kg

If you are trying to haul something very heavy on top if the racks, rent a truck.
If you need any better advice, it would help to know why you are wondering. What are you trying to accomplish?

Static, load/weight when car is parked.
Dynamic, extra force caused by going over a bump, as an example.
the weight of the load/inertia wants the load to keep moving, despite that the roof rack does not...

So when the car is parked, you might be able to have 400lbs of weight on the rack.
But if you drive and hit a bump with that weight, it might cause a lot of damage.

...thanks for the education.

Then I would assume if you stick to the roof's load capacity of 220lbs/100kg or less...that any "dynamic" weight is already in the calculation and would be leveraged across the structural integrity of the roof/rails/racks.

If you load something that weighs 400lbs, then you've already exceeded the dynamic weight capacity by 180 lbs.

Well, that's how my simple brain looks at the math.

180lbs together with the forces of nature, might make it a 240lbs force when hitting a bump. Just to give static reply in regards to the dynamics of the issue.

A simple brain might see a simple solution, where others way smarter people might take days to figure it out..
Did you ever hear the joke about the two professors sitting down at a diner, realizing the salt and pepper shakers had switched tops..

People are often asking such questions if they want to use roof tent. I personally would not exceed 100kg no matter what.

If this is the actual reason for the thread I can say that I had a roof tent (hard shell) on mine and it was just fine.

The intention is to use a Rooftop Tent. Thanks for the replies. Apparently the static weight limit is several times the dynamic limit. All I want is for the roof rails and roof to be able to hold the weight of a couple persons. So all I have to do is get a tent of 220lbs or less.

It was a Silverwing that I bought at Costco. I really liked it but it was just too heavy for my girlfriend to help me lift on and off.

So did you get rid of the tent? How did it work out?

I’m thinking of getting one but I don’t know if it can hold weight

Yea I returned it. It was great other than lifting it on and off of the roof.
