End of F15 Production Run
Does anyone know when the F15 X5M will end production?
I am seeing rumblings about it being a shorter than normal production run. Also, if anyone knows when the '18MY will be available for order? Thanks

I wonder what the gap will be between the current X5M and the next generation. I'll be looking late fall 2018 for a replacement. Based on this info, doesn't look good to move into a new X5M.

I am also curious when they will change over from MY17 to MY18 and if there are any changes between the two? I am planning on ordering one this summer and want to determine if its worth trying to get an 18.

I think at the end of a production run they tend to add some different options (I think colors mainly) to help move the vehicles, but who knows. In my estimation, it will likely be worth waiting 5 months to see what happens.

Heh.. I actually popped on the boards to see when a LCI was due on the current models. Pretty shocked to hear BMW are doing an early redesign from ground-up!

I don't think that's right. Not based on anything I read about the current model.

X5 -New Model
Consider: Audi Q7, Mercedes GL have been updated this model year. Porsche Cayenne has a new model due at the end of the year. X5 sales are down almost 20% year over year. Yes, the underpinnings on the F15 are the same as the prior generation. New X5 test mules have been spotted for months.

This has nothing to do with production and is referring to a shutdown for construction of the plant addition.

SOP: first of the month *USUALLY* within a few days EOP: last of the month *USUALLY* within a few days Second answer wasn't for you. Retooling for a new model can take a month (https://5series.net/articles/bmw-x5-...t-spartanburg/) but it doesn't mean that all Spartanburg is closed for that. Other section of the plant can be building other models. The thing is that BMW adjusts the schedule in accordance with different factors (low or high demand, vacation, new model coming up, timing of the end of the week, etc) and sometimes the EOP/SOP change as the date gets nearer. So it's hard to predict exactly at which moment in the month the change can occur but *usually* the month stays the same. If you look at 2 different vins, LL15863 and LL15864 of the earlier generation, there's a gap of 3 weeks between the 2 consecutive vins (jun 22nd vs july 13th 2012). Other times, there can be only a day between 2 model year. As the X5M is a low volume vehicule, they *sometimes* book specific times during the month to build it. As for the shutdown, it happens *usually* every year at the end of june/beginning of july and is *sometimes* one of the moment choosen by BMW to switch model year. At other times, the MY change occurs elsewhere. In the end, I cannot predict the future hence the right answer to your question are : I don't know but I tried to bring you some part of an answer |
