Funny how people are saying Lexus is for old folks when the current G11 looks like it's designed exclusively for those over 60. I'm 23 and if I were in the market for full size premium luxury sedans I'd pick the LS 500 over a 740i or 750i any day. The Lexus still doesn't look as good as the W222 S-class but you can tell they put a lot of work and emotion into their design unlike BMW these days.

OMG that front end. They just won't give up on it I guess. The suspension and drivetrain look incredible. Why no V8 you ask? Because fleet fuel economy requirements are forcing higher efficiency. Doesn't bother me that much. But OMG that front end.

Next-Generation Lexus LS Hybrid Uncovered in Press Photo

Drive Australia (and eagle-eyed Lexus enthusiasts) discovered a secret message in one of last week’s LS 500 press photos — buried in one of the many interior shots is an EV Mode button:

This image should indicate the arrival of the inevitable LS hybrid, most likely powered by the same V6 hybrid/virtual 10-speed transmission from the LC 500h.

(In fact, the LC coupe rolled out in a similar way in 2016– a Detroit debut of the gasoline LC 500, followed by a Geneva Motorshow reveal of the hybrid LC 500h in March.)

Yes..this was a slip up

I got an intimate look at it last Thursday in Miami at a Private Event...it looks much better in person than in pics. I love the front and sides the most. The rear is my least favorite angle.

Hahaha, I already mentioned it at the start of the thread ;-) The pics that slipped came from the European press pack if I remember well...

Lexus To Reveal LS 500h Hybrid Luxury Sedan In Geneva

Quote:
We've seen the new Lexus LS in internal-combustion guise. Now Toyota's upscale brand is preparing to introduce the hybrid version of its new flagship luxury sedan.

Set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show next month is the forthcoming new Lexus LS 500h, with that lower-case aitch connoting its electrified powertrain.

Lexus has revealed little in the way of details to go with this solitary preview image. However the existing LS 500 we saw in Detroit last month packs a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 engine.

If the precedent of the similarly badged LC coupe is anything to go by, the LS hybrid could adopt a version of the same with an electric assist. That combination in the LC 500h delivers 354 horsepower, while the unboosted LC 500 packs a naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 good for 471 hp.

The global debut of the LS 500h will be joined by the European premiere of the RC F GT3 racing car, displayed under the brand's new image alongside the LC, RC, RC F, RX, and NX models.

As it stands, Lexus already offers hybrid versions of the ES and GS sedans, as well as the NX and RX crossovers, and the dedicated hybrid CT hatchback. The new LS 500h will ostensibly replace the outgoing LS 600h as Toyota's most upscale (and most expensive) hybrid.

Agreed, during the press day for the test drive of the LC no one really cared for the LC500h. To make it even worst they priced the hybrid model about 4k more than the V8.

New Lexus LS 500h Coming With Multi Stage Hybrid System

Quote:
With less than two weeks left until the Geneva Motor Show kicks off, Lexus has started dropping more details on their new LS 500h.

Fitted with the brand's Multi Stage Hybrid System, which adds a four-stage shift device, it benefits from improved throttle responsiveness, better fuel efficiency and lower CO2 emissions, claims the automaker.

Moreover, it has the ability of traveling on electricity alone at speeds up to 140 km/h (87 mph), all while preserving a smooth and quiet drive. And if this technology sounds familiar, you're right, as it was first used on the LC 500h.

Powering the new Lexus LS 500h is a 3.5-liter V6 Dual VVT-I petrol engine, which works in conjunction with two electric motors. Toyota's luxury brand isn’t keen on releasing any performance specs yet, but we're probably looking at more power over the 359 PS (354 HP) of the LC 500h, which uses a 3.5-liter V6 lump and an electric motor.

Full details on the hybrid version of the all-new Lexus LS are to be announced on March 7, at 12:45 pm CET (6:45 am EST), during the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, where it will have its world debut.

Joining the hybrid luxury barge on the showroom floor will be the RC F GT3 racer, the LC, NX, RC, RC F and RX models.

Lexus Reveals All-New LS 500h Flagship With A 354HP Hybrid Powertrain

Quote:
Following the reveal of the LS 500 at the Detroit Auto Show, Lexus went on and pulled the wraps off the hybrid LS 500h version of their new flagship four-door model.

The new Lexus LS 500h is powered by the company’s latest Multi Stage Hybrid System, with the powertrain combining a 3.5-litre V6 petrol with two electric motors for a combined 354hp.

Based on the latest Lexus Global Architecture (GA-L) platform, the new LS 500h offers a lower center of gravity and a stiffer chassis which in turn allows the suspension to deliver supreme comfort levels.

Lexus has added a “four-stage shifting device” to the hybrid powertrain for a more direct response to driver inputs and a more dynamic driving experience, while retaining at the same time the characteristic smoothness and efficiency of the company’s hybrid models.

0-62mph comes in 5.4 seconds but the real trick in the latest Lexus hybrid powertrain is that it can keep the petrol engine shut down at speeds up to 87mph. The lithium-ion battery pack is 20 percent smaller than the nickel-hydride unit found in the outgoing LS 600h, yet has a higher power density.

As for that beautiful interior, Lexus says was inspired by Omotenashi, the Japanese concept of hospitality. The new front seats are 28-way adjustable, featuring heating, cooling and massage functions while the organically shaped dashboard hosts the 12.3-inch infotainment system. The rear seats also come with heating, cooling and massage functions while Lexus will also offer the option of power-controlled rear seats with a Shiatsu massage function and a raised ottoman leg rest.

The trim options are also inspired by Japanese culture, featuring natural woodwork and laser cutting technologies. These include the Art Wood/Organic, Art Wood/Herringbone and Laser Cut Special options with the latter emphasizing the contrast between precise metal lines and natural wood.

The new Lexus LS 500h features the company’s latest Safety System+ which extends the range of active safety systems available to the driver, helping this way in preventing accidents from happening. The Safety System+ covers the risks presented by four of the most common types of accident: rear-end collisions, collisions with pedestrians; accidents caused by lane departure and accidents at intersections. It also includes the world’s first intuitive pedestrian detection function with active steering.

The new Lexus LS 500h is expected to hit the European market at the end of this year.

Revamped Lexus LS 500 to start above $75,000

Quote:
SAN FRANCISCO -- Lexus will sell its redesigned LS 500 flagship sedan for around $76,000 for the base model, up from $73,515 on the outgoing model, in a bet that its more aggressive design and enhanced performance will draw brand loyalists who have been waiting for a redo of the four-door as well as newcomers to the brand.

Final pricing on the LS 500 will be released before the car goes on sale in February 2018.

"We do expect to attract people from different brands who may have drifted away," said Brian Bolain, general manager for Lexus marketing.

The press kickoff for the sedan was set in San Francisco where the original LS was introduced and established the Lexus brand in 1989. The LS was a surprise hit and became the benchmark for Japanese luxury cars.

Lexus is hoping to draw buyers of luxury sport sedans by focusing on performance and styling as much as a smooth ride and the brand's traditional cushy interiors. Bolain said its natural competitors will be German sport-luxury sedans such as the Mercedes S class, the BMW 7 series and the Audi A8.

The U.S. market for large luxury sedans has dropped 4.1 percent this year while overall car demand across the industry is on track to decline for the fourth consecutive year. Sales of the current LS have dropped 29 percent to 2,670 this year through August.

Lexus engineers and designers say the latest LS was designed to return to its Japanese roots and not mimic European sedans. They see the reworked sedan as a unique option in the segment and expect to sell about a thousand a month in the U.S. Annual U.S. sales of the LS haven't topped 10,000 units since 2013 or 12,000 units since 2010.

The 2018 model is longer, lower and wider than its predecessor, with a more coupelike silhouette.

One controversial choice by Lexus was to go with a turbocharged V-6 engine rather than an eight-cylinder that has defined the class for decades. Lexus says the LS 500 is competitive in acceleration with competitors while delivering better fuel economy.

The V-6 engine, with two turbochargers, makes 416 hp and is mated to a new 10-speed transmission that it shares with the all-new LC 500 flagship coupe.

Lexus expects the EPA to rate fuel efficiency for the gasoline engine with rear-wheel drive at 19 mpg in city driving driving, 29 mpg on the highway and 23 mpg combined. The hybrid rear-wheel-drive version is expected to be rated at 25 mpg city/33 mpg highway/28 mpg combined.

Both models are available with all-wheel drive.
