I currently own both vehicles. On a dig or from a roll, the X5M literally walks away from the M2. The F87 has to be modified.

The AWD launch is great. I believe you had an F10 M5 (also noted in your sig). I never did a side-by-side when I had my M5 (with comp package), but I recall the M5 pulling significantly harder from 60+ (versus the X5M). Do you agree?

Absolutely. You can't defeat the laws of physics. Aerodynamics are a bitch!

I know, just making conversation. Mostly secondary to the extra weight and drivetrain loss with the AWD. The M5 seemed to have this endless, oh-shit power. The X5M is much easier to launch, however.

Honestly it surprises me that a M2 could hang evenly with a X5M and the M2 is about even with a M240i. I wonder just how much extra boost does the X5M need to make to overcome its weight and aero against an M5. Would be interesting to see a tuned X5M against a stock M5 race.

Seems like tested 1/4 Mile times for the F85 are over a second faster than that of the M2, at a meaningfully higher trap speed... not sure what to make of this video.

but at highway speeds, say 60-80 mph when both cars go wot, the difference will be very minor, with the x5m's advantage being weighed down by lbs and awd drivetrain loss.

on the highway a lot of things can change, from this video it is not clear if the x5m had passengers and how many. also, no idea of the starting speed. i'd say they should pull pretty evenly or the x5m would be slightly ahead if a race from a rolling 60 + mph.

Didn't think the M2's N55 had that kind of steam at speed. Either way, great to see two very capable BMWs! |
