Valet Curbed My Wheels

So I took the wife to a nice restaurant in Beverly Hills over the weekend and valeted the X5. We've been to this restaurant numerous times before without issue, but the first time with the X5.

Dropped it off in the front and they took it in their underground parking structure. After dinner was over they brought it back out and we drove straight home.

Well the next day I look at the X5 in better light and was shocked to see that they managed to curb 3 out of the 4 wheels!!!

Now I've been playing phone tag with the valet company claims department to see what can be done (if any).

This is why I never valet... I prefer to curb rash my own wheels thank you! Hehe

On a serious note, aggressive wider wheels tend to get damaged easier. It's just life...

What pisses me off right now is that

1. I didn't see it that night so that I could rip into the valet personally
2. I tipped the guy for scratching my wheels!!!

Good news is that it looks like an easy repair and should be fairy affordable.

Last time I valet a car was in 2008 when they curbed 3 wheels in my 2 weeks old car. Now, I either park far and walk, or take an Uber if I am going to a place where there are no other options.

No matter how nice the restaurant, valet guys don't give a f*ck.

Ouch! I'm sorry to hear that happened. Don't take no for an answer! Talk with a manager at the valet company if need be. Then let the restaurant manager or the owner (even better) about your recent visit. Explain you are a regular patron to his/her establishment. I hope they make you whole. Good luck!

You might consider installing one of these in the future, especially for your wide wheels .... https://bimmian.com/Accessories-for-...ed-Rim-Strips/

In Beverly Hills no less - you might think valets would be used to nice rides and be mindful :-(

#NeverValet #X5LivesMatter

It must be a pain to wake up everyday and look at it... I got a similar curb rash but at least my clumsy self did it. I wish you good luck and hope the valet company covers the damage. Keep us updated.

If you get them to agree to repairs go to your own person... have it done properly and ask them to cover the bill. Do not let them choose the repair shop. Typically they have a "wheel guy" on call who may or may not be worth using but you can bet they're are looking to get the cheapest job done and you're looking for the best... there is a large gap between the two.

Doesn't matter where you valet, nobody who gets paid what valets get paid is going to care about your car. Probably some kid who barely just got his license just parked your car.

You can't win arguing with Valet company for small damages. Read on their disclaimer.
Especially when you left already.

Just spray some plastidip on it. You won't see the difference. I never trust on other people driving my car.

I only valet when I can't avoid it, which is rarely. If I do need to valet, I tip the guy in advance and tell him no curb rash, no dings, treat it like it's yours.

Hate to say it, but once you drive off, they're not responsible anymore for any damages. Getting your wheels fixed shouldn't be the end of the world. They look like matte black reps, so spray some plastidip on it or get them fixed for $50 a wheel.

I am always impressed by anyone that manages to curb their wheels in a vehicle with Surround view cameras and tilting mirrors. Even more so on the drivers side.

Funny you should mention this... in SFO airport in their short term lot they have this lane on the very far left for electronic toll payment (Fastrak) so you don't need to take a ticket. It's a crescent shaped lane so you turn left into the lane and turn right out of the lane.

The curvature of the lane is very sharp and for some reason the curbs are a foot high, but it's not like there is a barrier—the wall is another four-five feet away. I have stopped the car and checked. For me to clear the curb without curbing my rims, I need to be perfectly square within like a few inches front and back. That's simply too small a comfortable tolerance especially when the curb not be so high. It's not something you can even see in the surround view and the curbs are just low enough that it's not detectable by the ultrasonic parking sensors. In the course of a few months picking up my friends, I've managed to curb my driver side front and rear, and the passenger side rear. Obviously I stopped driving there after finally stopping to measure.

Even with the cameras its going to happen especially if you street park frequently. I curbed mine the 2nd day of delivery on both front and rears on the passenger side. My OCD gets the best of me sometimes when trying to park as close as possible to the curb to avoid potential side swipes from on coming traffic.

That reminds me of the drive through car washes where you line up wheels on a track.
