Hi there. You're in for a treat, the car is incredible.

41
Male
North West
9 years NCB

£490I think mine is and I had to get a tracker. I went with BMW track star and the insurance is via LV.

Good luck, rates do seem to have gone up recently.

Thanks everyone for your kind help
So been shopping around tonight and the lowest I have got is £810 with LV Insurance. Only drawback is that I need a tracker. Any advice on cost and best product to look at?
Alternatively I have a quote with Admiral for £991 without the need for a Tracker. Also Admiral quote £902 but I have to have a Telematics box which I refuse to have anyone monitoring my driving in the M50d
So can I get a Tracker for under £180 to make the cheaper quote worthwhile?
I'm with Hastings Direct at present, however they refuse to quote me online Will have to call them tomorrow.
Cheers

Insurance approved trackers start in the region of £500 plus subscription costs. I think you would be better of finding a insurance company that doesn't need a tracker like direct line. There's a few others that don't need trackers too like privilege and some others that I can't remember.

Wasn't it mentioned somewhere that if a car is stolen, the Police can request it's position from BMW and they can obtain it due to all their cars now being "Connected" ?

I am sure I read somewhere you quote to the Police Operation Condor or something and they know what you're talking about.

That's the reason I haven't bothered with a Tracker.

Also, has anyone tried https://www.thetrackr.com/

Seems like an awfully cheap way of keeping tabs on where you car is, anyone tried it ? was thinking of getting one and hiding it somewhere in the car.

That thing only works on Bluetooth and crowd-sourcing. It's not a true tracking and it's meant for small things. Also I think it only makes a noise and that doesn't really do anything if you're trying to track a stolen car or something.

I live 'out west', am old enough to remember black and white TV and the minstrels, do around 15k miles/year, have 8 years NCB and have a Tracker from Tracker.
Was with Direct Line until we got a more competitive quote from LV = £450.

Interestingly my wife is swapping out her Evoque for a Macan Diesel S next month and has been quoted the same!

Happy Days!

Get a Tracker from Tracker is my advise...why would you not want to protect your investment with the, IMO the best available? I also bought GAP Insurance for £350 for three year's back in 2014..again something that you hope never to use - just like a Tracker but will thank your lucky stars should you be unfortunate enough to require it.

I went with the BMW track star option as I mentioned. Not a bad idea on car north of £60k.

I think I got the 3 year subscription for £250 and the unit and fitting I can't recall maybe 200? Shop around if price is important. I went with the stealer for convenience.

I had a Tracker Locate fitted into my 135i when there was that spate of thefts of BMW's via OBD port access back in 2012. Will probably get one fitted into the X5 as well, as they do good discount deals for existing customers.
For new customers they are currently offering 3 years subscription for the price of 2 years at the moment, which is a good saving, as long as you don't chop and change cars ever 2 years.

Still shopping around for that cheaper car insurance but no had any cheaper quotes - in fact they are getting higher £2k+
Its amazing the variation in prize I'm currently getting?
In respect to GAP Insurance, I've got a great prize from Total Loss Gap at £239 for 4 years with no max claim limit based on £75k car value. This is by far the cheapest I've found if anyone is still looking
Next on the list is tyre and alloy insurance quotes which is not easy to find for 21" wheels - any suggestions?

W.R.T. alloy insurance. Why? For £400 you can get all four to look like new in a specialist shop. IMO it's not worth the costs. Alloy Gators are even cheaper at around £150 fitted to protect the rims.

I got ALA to price match total loss gap, their price match policy is to beat the other quote by 20%

It was very straight forward to do over the phone so i would give that a go

So are you saying ALA have given you a further 20% off £239?
Are there advantages with ALA over Total Loss Gap?
Nice thing about TLG is there are no max limits on what you can claim for rather than £25k or £50K limits most companies quote.
Thanks.

In the US, insurance pricing differs from person to person due to so many variables such as:

-Zip code (geographic location)
-personal credit score
-past claims
-annual mileage
-bundle discounts with other insurance products purchased (home, boat, RV, motorcycle, life, umbrella)
-make, model, year of car
-level of insurance coverage purchased (each US state have different minimums, some people over-insure)
-how long you've been a customer
-other promotional discounts

For example, b/c I purchased an umbrella policy, I actually reduced my auto insurance down to the state minimum as my umbrella is much cheaper to purchase to provide the additional coverage than auto insurance's additional coverage. On top of this, I also have homeowners insurance through them as well, and 2 cars to insure, so that adds some discounts to what I actually pay.

so really, the best way to compare is to ask someone in your same city how much his auto coverage is if he has the exact same coverage variables as above as you...which is highly unlikely for most established adults with families and hard assets these days.
thanks for enlighten everyone about U.S. insurance. I'm sure it helped the OP and all the U.K. owners...

That's a great price
Thanks for the heads up will certainly give them a call.
Did you go for the 4 year Replacement GAP policy with £50k claim limit?

I went with a 4 year policy, they listed a claim limit of £45k on the paperwork. Im okay with this as i feel thats plenty to cover between an insurance payout and what i paid. The discounted price of my car is around £60k, I can't see an insurance payout for a total loss being less than £15k over the next 4 years. Atleast thats how I have it in my head

Now that you mentioned it, in China the insurance is based purely on the value of the car, so first year on a $100k Range Rover was $8000 for insurance.

Admiral have quoted me a touch under £1000 all in with full no claims protected, wife added driver, £250 VE and £250 CE, business mileage.
This is based on make and model rather than registration number being quoted bearing in mind mine has not been registered yet. I've been told once you have the reg number the quote will be slightly less

don't know if you're being sarcastic or not, but indications are that insurance underwriting in UK appears to use similar criterias
