Rim damage help

Just ran over a curb tonight and have rim damage. Can some one tell me how to proceed with getting this fixed - new rim? Repair? BMW dealer vs. 3rd party? Approx cost I should be paying? ... any help would be appreciated ... live in Cleveland

That doesn't look that bad don't freak out. Look for a local reputable shop or wait for one of the pros to weigh in here with a recommendation. Seriously, I've seen worse being repaired.

IMHO don't look great with low profile tyres.
Also do you not have to take the tyre off have them fitted?

A good refinishing place should be able to fix those to a reasonable degree for not a whole lot of money. Just google wheel refinishing and you'll get a list of shops near you. Don't bother going to the BMW dealer as they'll just send it to an outside shop anyway and then charge you a mark up.

You can also call your service manager and ask who they use for wheel repairs (most car dealers have local PDR, detailing, and wheel repair contacts since they use them to prep their used cars for sale). They're usually OK with sharing who they use.

As said above, source out a reputable wheel refinishing shop and they can easily fix that at a fraction of the cost of replacement. We have a really good shop here in Vancouver. Up here, that would be around $250-300 to fix. The multi-finish wheels can be pricey (paint/machine/clear).

It shouldn't cost $300, more like $100 or thereabouts.

Another thing to consider...if you've ever thought about changing the color of your wheels, the same place that fixes the rash would also likely be able to provide powder coating services. I had all 4 wheels on my old M3 refinished and powder coated gunmetal grey for something like $350. Came out sick and I never had any problems with etching or chips on the wheels.

Thanks for all the help everyone! I was quoted $125 by my BMW dealer and then $200 from a local repair shop. Also considering changing the color now since!

The dealer probably pays a local detailing guy a flat fee or rate to cover a certain amount of work per month. Adding your wheel to the mix doesn't cost them any extra so it's all upside to them.

The local guy is invested in his equipment, etc. and probably has a minimum charge to make sure that he covers his overhead no matter how small the job. I bet if you were to ask him to quote 4 wheels instead of 1, the price would not increase on a 1:1 basis.

Did some lighter curb rash. Sat down with a nail file and polishing/rubbing
compound. It took a while but can't even find the damage.

for polishing up used a dremel

A lot will depend on how you feel. If one of those I know its there
and constantly look down at it, get a new rim.
