You will need to remove to decorative strips on the vent and the vent itself. Once removed push down two retaining clips on the switch and take it out.
Thanks for replying. Not sure what you mean by the decorative strips on the vent. How do you pull the vent? Thanks.

Did mine today as well.

I had changed the coding waiting on the switch to arrive and when I hooked it up, nothing. Had to reset, then change with the new switch attached. Success!

Appreciate all notes in this thread.

According to RealOEM first one not for F15.

Sorry to bring up an old thread but figured better than starting a new one. I have a 14 F15 and was hoping someone could clarify that all that is needed is the new light switch with the rear fog button and coding? I tried to order 61-31-9-865-813 but it got cancelled because the place didn’t actually have it in stock. I started looking at eBay and the seller that has it said that I needed to also run wires from the switch to the rear? I also tried looking at another site that came up and a lot of their info says it depends on if you have night vision (I do) it’s a different switch…I’m confused and can’t seem to find a straight answer. So do the 14’s have the lights already installed and all that’s needed is a switch? Is that switch 61-31-9-865-813? If I get that switch and then get it coded for rear fogs will that change the functionality of my night vision? Thank you in advance for any knowledge you can impart on me. If you happen to have a suggestion on where to purchase the switch I’m all ears too.

All you need is the switch and coding. I’ve done this mod on my 2014. You don’t need different lights or any additional wiring.

Check realoem.com but as far as I remember switch is the same and all you need for this is to install new switch and code the car. You can find this switch on Ebay for $100-150 based on the condition.

Thanks for the info. I ordered the switch and hope it will come fairly quickly from Germany. For anyone looking in the future, I was able to do a best offer of 40€ and shipping is rather expensive at another 40-45€ so it comes out at about $95 with silly PayPal transaction fees. I find that fairly reasonable and was able to find better options by putting the appropriate -‘s in the item number searching instead of just searching the digits only.

I’m a bit concerned just because I’ve had a hard time deciphering between switches for LED headlights and night vision but don’t really know why the switch should have an effect either way. I’ve seen the same part number say it works with night vision and without. I’m hoping that by doing this “upgrade” I don’t lose any of my current functions. If I do, I’ll probably just switch back to the original one as both are options I rarely use (night vision or rear fogs) but would rather have the night vision be available. Thanks for the help!

I can confirm with an MY 2015 with factory Night Vision that adding the euro switch and coding as described in this post does work perfectly and does not impact the NV camera or it’s function. None of the headlight switches have any impact on the night vision button - it’s only the cowling that’s different (NV vs. non-NV). It’ll fit perfectly.

Ordered my switch a little over a month ago and it finally got in from Germany, thanks Customs! Shipper sent it nearly immediately just got held up forever at JFK which surprised me when I got the box as it was just the switch in a ziploc bag surrounded by those little air bags so things don’t shift around.

Anyway, I have the switch and I’d like to install it but can’t find any video’s on YouTube or pictures of people showing how to remove the old one? I saw an older x5 video where the guy takes out the air vent above and then pulls the switch out but our dashboards look different. From here I see the direction of “pulling the trim piece” but I’m unsure exactly which trim piece and don’t want to risk breaking anything. Also, where are the tabs on said trim piece so I kind of know where to slide the plastic trim removal tool to release them? Can someone point me in the right direction of where to see visually this switch either being replaced or just removed. I’m sure if I can get it out I can reverse the process. I’m waiting to install the new switch to program in the rear fogs. Thanks in advance!

It is quite easy, just remove panels on the left side and vent and get the switch out.

Thank you sir. I greatly appreciate the location of the clips. For anyone going forward I would suggest looking at the location of the left trim piece closest to the driver door. Also, move your seat back and move your steering wheel out of the way for the most room (out towards the seat). Not at all necessary just easiest and my steering wheel defaults to going in when we turn the car off. The right trim piece is a piece of cake to get off. The 3 clips are super easy to loosen just sticking the trim piece removal tool up from the bottom. The left piece was much tougher for me. I got the bottom section that goes under the vent of the “L” trim piece out pretty easily but the top two clips were very strongly attached. I used the trim piece to try and get it to budge but eventually with the bottom loose I got my fingers in the back by the windshield side and as gently as possible pulled it loose. Once those two pieces are out you’re cake. T20 screws for the vent and it comes straight out. The two tabs for the actual light trim piece are difficult to see but easy to feel. That folds out and then removing the four tabs is also very straight forward from the diagram.

RED_Y_ I can’t thank you enough for the diagram. This mod was super important to me as I have my girlfriend use this car and her current commute takes her into the mountains of Northern CA right now from our home in Southern Oregon two days a week. The fog has been ridiculously thick this year too. I don’t think she cares nearly as much as I do but I want to take any safety measure possible that we can. Merry Christmas for me to get it done this morning!

Photo’s show the very dirty car with the fogs on and the fog icons on the dashboard. Please disregard the cluttered garage or dissembled motorcycle next to it
