Your dealer gets the VIN from the factory as soon as the vehicle enters production (code 150). The next thing to watch out for is the day on which the status code of your vehicle order (your dealer gets these updates from the factory) changes to 165 which means that the vehicle was loaded onto the ship and set sail to Germany in your case.

Since most dealers are useless, I did my own research from the date the vehicle order status changed to 165 - pretty much checked all ships that set-off to Bremerhaven from 3 main ports in US, focusing on Charleston and bingo - located the only vehicles carrier, making it a no-brainer to safely assume my car is there

Apparently this means that the vehicle has been built, but is about to have its body panels fitted to complete the build.
I assume by the end of the week it will leave Spartabnurg for the long journey via Charleston Port to Bremerhaven onto Southampton then finally arrive sometime in May at my dealer in deepest Wiltshire.

Don't know why I still cannot get the VIN/Chassis Number, dealer has requested it. Seems like Europe is someway behind NA WRT BMW and the data they release to the people paying for the product. Why I just don't know.

Anyway, not too much longer to wait.....
Ordered mine about the same time for UK delivery.

Have the VIN number and it's showing up correctly on http://www.bmwarchiv.de/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html

Says in production as of 8/4/14 which, hopefully, has it delivered on schedule at the end of May (early June..)

Funny enough it says it was built ON MY BIRTHDAY

Apart the from the build specification is there anything else this site provides? Nothing on intended shipping dates.

Mine was ordered 14th Feb and I've only managed to get an estimated delivery date out of dealer (mid-June) - No estimated production date or VIN yet. I am hoping they at least will let me know when it finally goes into production.

Hi.
Yes, finally today after nagging and nagging and nagging!

Then he calls me and tells me its sailed!

Checking on the web site it says production was on Saturday 5th, so assume this was production completed!

Who knows eh..BMW and Dealers treat their customers like mushrooms...thank god for this site

Looks like UK orders are more or less getting similar timeframes:

10 weeks from order to production
6 weeks from production to delivery

So looks like my production should be week of 21st April and delivery mid-June (which correlates with what the dealer is telling me). Think I'll start the Baunton VIN nagging in a couple of weeks

I wouldn't say that the bmw tracking site is very accurate. Most times, it finally got updated a week AFTER I'd get updates from my salesperson. Heck, even now over a month after I picked up my X5 it shows that it still hasn't arrived at the dealership.

You lucky, lucky, lucky.......git!

Nothing from my dealer. I'm setting expectation very low (mid-June) and anything better is a win.

Good for you though. Hope it comes through

Hey Saggo, yes, received VIN from the dealer. Then looked it up and took about a week to register as my car, not some 525 from 1988!?!

It's possible our cars shared a boat then @Baunton. My completion date was 7th March and I was told by my GM that it arrived at Southampton earlier this week and should be with him over the weekend.

Definitely looking forward to seeing it on Monday / Tuesday and driving it before Easter.

Wow - Just been told by my dealer that orders they are accepting now have a 12 month delivery timescale (in UK). Demand is extremely high apparently.

Luckily mine is still on track for mid-June
