First Long Road Trip

My partner and I just returned from a 2,500 mile road trip from SW Virginia to the Bar Harbor area of Maine. I've made this trip every Fall since the early 80's. Creature of habit, I guess. That and I really, really like lobster. In years past, I've made the trip in everything from Lincoln Marks, 4-Runners, Sequoias, various motorcycles and a Fiat Abarth. Always the same, 2 days up and drive straight through coming home, about 1100 miles one way. The X5 was a pleasure to drive.
When we first got the X5 we both felt the steering was a little on the "twitchy" side, especially on longish Interstate drives at speed. After 8,000 miles, I guess we've gotten used to it, as it feels very stable now. As well as being comfortable and great handling (Vermont and New Hampshire 2 lanes were a blast) fuel economy was a real surprise. We averaged 25-26 MPG on the Hwy. With the speed limit sensor set at 80, and going off way too often, I think the mileage is great for an AWD vehicle.
So far we've had no issues at all. Well, except that we can't figure out how to keep Baxter, our Schnauzer, from setting off the alarm when left in the car while we eat.

Congrats.

If you press the door lock on your remote a second time within 10 seconds the motion sensor turns off.

Happy dog, happy owner - no alarm.
Enjoy.

Many thanks Stinky. I'll give it a try.

We took my wife's 2016 X5 35i (MPPK + Dinan Chip) for a 2.5 hour trip up to our cottage today. Drove it in "Eco Mode" all the way and we got 8.7L /100 KM or 27 MPG (hoping I converted that correctly). Average speed was 115 KM/H or 71.4 MPH with changing elevation and no traffic. This was the first long trip we've taken the X5 on. It's an amazing SUV. I love my Jeep Overland as my daily drive but X5 is in another league. Looking forward to the drive back.

If you look at the alarm LED under the mirror, when the motion sensor is deactivated, the LED will illuminate for a longer period instead of flashing; you will know it has been deactivated.
