A number of people are running 1 set of tires - DSW06s.
I meant 2 sets of tires with 1 set of rims. On my 550ix I have two sets of rims, but was considering being cheap and going with one set of rims -- I think I just answered my own question.

Just curious what other cars are you comparing it to? Any other SUV?

Wondering if you should invest in a alignment to make sure your settings are all within spec because if not it can affect traction drastically in slippery conditions.

That said...I live where I do, and just have to drive.

Pleased with the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R2 SUV.
I believe some of the very best, but this IS the car that starts to slide/loose grip faster than any car I have owned in my life.
I have gotten used to it now, and believe it must be due to the weight (or weight distribution), so I am fine with it.
Just have to calculate a bit more distance to the car in front and slow safely down in curves.

All best,
Bent

That's my setup as well. I too have seen good results with them, especially considering their width I was concerned that the performance in snow would be horrid.

Blizzak DMV2's on replica 275/40 R20's square work very well in the snow also surprisingly not bad on dry pavement.

Looks good.

I purchased some Avant Garde wheels for my winter setup on my 550 and they oxidized. Had to have them painted.

Any issues with yours?

Good to know.

My X5 will show up right before winter, so I'll have them put the winter setup on during delivery. Just need to figure out what that setup is.

So, I'm one of those guys who doesn't own a second set of tires and doesn't really plan on it. I live in Columbus, OH. We get our fair share of snow and ice in the winter months and I've been pleased with the first winter that I went through. I have Michelin Latitude Tour HP All-Seasons and I've got to say that I was quite pleased with how they performed in packed iced and heavy snow. Obviously, I could easily fishtail the car if I wanted to but I felt that I had solid control of the vehicle when driving normally and not being a moron.

That being said, I agree with the above poster on the fact that with the weight of the X5 you need to be aware and cautious on your braking and distance between you and the guy in front of you. If you're tokyo drifting in the snow... well, ya know!

looking at a used set of wheels and tires and came across this.

http://vancouver.craigslist.ca/van/wto/5824237842.html

i've been looking around and it seems like style 215 only came in 21" and not in 20" like this CL ad. i thought the poster was wrong about the size but if u zoom in on the first time u can clearly see the 20" tire size. i assume this is a replica set of wheels? or BMW made a style 215 in 20" under another style number that im not finding?

Do you switch the wheels over on your own or do you take the vehicle to a tire shop twice a year? What’s the normal cost of a switch?

Those look awesome and a nice option for the staggered OEM 21's even on the F85. Nice find and I bet they do great in the heavy snow.

Purchased a set of tires and wheels along with TPMS. Dedicated set up for autumn/winter and one for spring/summer. I have the work completed at the dealership if the service schedule aligns otherwise my friend's shop handles the work.

I just installed these on my 469m wheels and took a road trip down to D.C. from NYC this week for thanksgiving and everything seems good to me ride didn't feel harsh at all and I was hitting 70 to 80 miles constantly not noisy either. I was originally go for Michelin performance winter tires but everything got sold out on tirerack and decided to go for this but no regret at the moment. however, I'll have to see when its on snowy day.

There’s something wrong when there’s more snow in London than Edinburgh!
