Check Engine Light (CEL) - Yet All Systems OK in Vehicle Info?

My Check Engine Light (CEL) came on today.

The car is running fine.

I went into the iDrive's Vehicle Info > Vehicle Status > Check Control - and see "All Systems OK."

This is a stock 5.0i - only search results in this forum I could find are for 35d or modified with after-market chips.

Other research is pretty consistent about possibilities (screen shot attached).

However, why would I get a CEL and then see "All Systems OK?"

Did you scan with Rheingold?
There can be a lot of false positive. I have seen CEL when filling up tank and a little bit of gas drips just outside tank. It might go away on its own.

Almaretto, thanks for your response.

My 5.0i is stock; I looked Rheingold up and see it's for coding and I presume diagnostics. Don't have that available.

It's encouraging that you say it may go away on its own. I did open and close the gas cap. And now I'll wait for a few more on/off cycles to see what happens.

Since it's the weekend, I decided to go to an auto parts store that offers complimentary CEL code checks, below. Looks like I'll be scheduling BMW service tomorrow.

$576.43 for the Heated Oxygen Sensor part, Texas sales tax, and labor. Ugh. I hate being out of warranty, but can't find a new vehicle I think I'd be as satisfied with overall as much as my 3-year old jalopy...

Went to Autozone for the free scan. Their scanner indicated a bad gas cap. I've heard to use an OEM cap, so I went by the dealership and bought a new one. They told me, if it is the gas cap, the CEL should automatically extinguish after a few driving cycles. After about six, it has not. I'm hoping it does before my appointment in a few days.

It clearly shows O2 sensor that located after CAT.
When it is bad, PCM take other sensor over O2 sensor so car runs ok.
Anyway, you need to replace that O2 sensor.
I hope your CAT is ok and other parts ok too because when coolant leak, it damage the O2 sensor and CAT which is very expensive.

Good luck

The post you responded to was from 2016, I bet it’s all squared away by now.
Good info for the next person that experiences this.
