Hi,
I'm towing with 40 e a light un-braked trailer for my toys. Here you can tow up to 750 kgs (1 653 lbs) trailer. I have factory installed tow hitch. Anything you want to know or are concerned? BR, Ville |

I know the gas models can tow 6000 lbs but wasnt sure if this included the 40e. I want to buy a boat at some point and wasnt sure if the 40e would be able to tow it. |

Oh, just saw this thread.
It has been a while... Camper is within X5´s specs, below 600lbs hitch and 7,000lbs max weight. Towing was horrible. Max Speed 50-55mph before sway. Not to mention Overhauling Trucks at that speed. Also Invisiblehitch does not recommend WD-Control 7 Anti-Sway Hitches. In EU the X5 is the towing champ, especially the Diesels, but in The US We finally switched to a RAM 1500 and now 3500 |

Your X5 is really glossy. Took me many hours, elbow grease and various products to get mine glossy. Is yours ceramic or seal coated to be that glossy? |

Were you using a weight distributing hitch when you towed that camper? |

Same from invisihitch who installed my hitch. The BMW Diesel is doing fine pulling a trailer, nothing wrong with that. It only got hot here in the Georgia Mountains, but nothing dramatic. It also pulled engine wise better than our first RAM 1500 with the 5.7 HEMI. I figured that the X5 is just too short and light for proper RV Trailer towing. "The tail wagging the dog" thing. I also asked BMW for this topic as their is barely information in the USA available on the towing specs etc. On the other side the X5 is well prepared for towing and even comes with a back cam view on the hitch for proper hitching up (hack via coding). BMW answer was that they want their cars in The US understood as Performance Cars and not as Tow Vehicle. Hence no OEM Hitch from Factory. Pulling with our todays RAM 3500 teaches you that BMW know why they hold this position. In EU this is a different situation as any trailer size and weight is much more regulated. I use an invisihitch for pulling my boat. If I were pulling an RV with an X5 I'd say screw BMW and their "we want our cars to represent performance and not towing" attitude. I'd still have some type of anti sway bar device or weight distribution system installed. And I wouldn't exceed the recommending towing speed with an RV.

Thx. I keep a spray bottle of McGuires quick detailing spray wax in my trunk for touch ups after it rains. My water spots are held to a minimum, since i put two coats of menzerno power lock on and two coats of Ps21s carnuba wax on top of that. Bird doo doo doesnt have a chance of sticking with my X5 anymore
