Considering move from E61 to F16
My daily driver is a 2010 BMW 535i wagon (E61). This has been a great car for me since I purchased it new six years ago. Performance is close to that of the E60 535ix sedan but with added cargo space. My wagon has only 52,000 miles and there is no compelling reason to upgrade.
After driving my wife's 2016 X3 35i with DA+ and other options, I have the itch for a newer car. I tried a 2016 X6 35i with DA+ and multicontour seats. I enjoyed the new technology and seat comfort of the X6, but the cargo space and performance appear no better than my wagon. I also tried the X5 40e, but preferred the N55 engine and the style of the X6. I would welcome input from others that may have considered or made a similar move to a F15 or F16 from a 5 series. |

I jumped from a 2010 E60 535i to a 2013 E70 35i X5 and noticed immediately the lack of power on the E70... However, moving from a E70 to a F15 35i with MPPK + RC, I can confidently say that the F15 feel as quick as my 2010 E60 535i

Well, you right there is no compelling reason.
I own an F10 (525 D) from 2012 - new bought - with close to 100,000 miles on it and still drives very well. It has all the options and no signs of ageing. Anyhow I decided this year to buy a new X6 40D, because its nice to get a new and different car. The 5-series would last for another 100,000 miles no doubt. I was considering the new 5 series, which will be out on the market next year, but got a good deal in this one. Your options are simple: you can afford: buy a new one and if you don't or don't want continue enjoying what you have!

Kzang and Max M, thanks for your observations and benefit of your insights.
I would be willing to wait for the next generation 5 series touring with the B58 engine, if BMW offers it in the US in 2018. Unfortunately, this appears unlikely. The weight and the higher center of gravity of the X6 do not work in its favor. http://www.digitaltrends.com/cars/20...-specs-rumors/ http://www.bmwblog.com/2015/10/28/bm...e-even-better/ |

Its a tough one, I say if you want to save money dont drive your wife's car lol.
I LOVE my E38, every time I drive it, still has amazing driving dynamics, its fast (faster then the F15), handles well and is really well appointed. .................then I get into my wife's F15 and drove 900 miles across country and wow the tech in that thing is just amazing and of course the new cars smell. It even makes my M3 which is only 2 years old feel really old. I just have to remind myself I can drive it whenever I want and hang onto the 7 until both the other cars are finance free.

I moved from f10 535i to f16 x6 v8 I honestly miss f10 I think it was a much more balanced car the x6 has huge amount of power with the v8 but IMHO it is useless. Maybe I should've gone with m package instead of luxury line.
