Yep. Had a 2001 4.4i X5, a 2010 35d X5, and several 6 cyl. 3-series. The 50i (just got a 2014 50i M Sport) is a different animal. As quick as the 335i I traded in, with smoother torque delivery, and a better exhaust note (IMO).

It is with interest that I read the various posts in this topic.

Now since I am in the US for a week, I am really wondering why you need 50i's and X5/6M's given the impossibility to drive it the way it was designed for. Speed limits of 55-60 mph....thats just second gear.

Actually I really feel sad for you guys. The good news is that you pay less than USD 100 K for a top performance car. In the Netherlands the prices are starting here for the entry level model excl options. But......in 1 hour drive there is thousands of miles of Autobahn, where you van drive it the way it should.

Meanwhile please continue to buy big machines.... Hubraum kann man nicht genug haben.....men cannot have sufficient engine volume God bless America and the German Autobahn!

Not sure where you're driving, but speed limits can hit 70-75MPH. And 2nd gear going 55-60mph?? Must be racing all the time.

50i WORTH IT??

REMEMBER.... you can always make the 50i do what is was designed to do.... SCREEM....... BUT making a smaller engine to this is just a waste of time, money, standing, etc,,, etc,,,, etc,,, etc...........

it feels really good beating stock corvettes and vipers off the line when they cant put the power down...albeit only until 30 40 MPH....
if the stig was driving them im SOOL, but with all the two doors i put to shame hustling around, im surely impressed with my 5k+LBS vehicle. ive out driven every SRT jeep and cayenne GTS i encounter, and i dont even have an M...all im saying is...unless i can justify the minimal positives above and beyond the 50i with the mods, other then the X5m there is no other SUV i would rather be in and other then a AWD 2 door with 400hp+ and manual tranny, im happy where i am....until i can own a raptor, a smallblock V8 Miata, and triple sportbike in one garage, im good to go.(no pickups or motorcycles in my neighborhood....although my FJ09 Yamaha is happy in storage...

I'm still wondering how you "out drive" these folks on civil roadways. You sure they knew you were two were in a race?

Don't feel too bad...

I just drove 2500 miles (that's 4000 km) on a trip. I was constantly doing 85-95 mph on the highway. Even hit the ~130 mph limiter several times. Those people who insisted on staying in the passing lane, never yielding to the right? You can be sure all that power came into use.

Also did I mention I only spent about $300 in gas? And it was that high only because I filled up once in Canada...
