2015-2016 X5 Center Console Bin with Smart phone base
Does anyone has the phone adapter base in their center console bin.
I want to see a few photos to get an idea how much space does it takes. Should be option Smartphone Integration. Appreciated if someone can send a few photos of the inside of the bin with this phone base. |

It takes up a LOT of space to make the center consol almost unuseable.
I had it on my previous E70 and didn't get it on my current F15. Snapping in the phone every time I drove the car was a hassle as well. Here is the pic of it from google

Like Kzang, I got it for my wife's X5 but didn't get it for mine. Between the cost and lost functionality/room, it's not worth it IMO. I'm not missing it at all.

Don't get it.
Most of us ended up removing them to reclaim the storage space.

It's still on my list to do, the phone cradle delete. Hate how much room it occupies.

If you install together the "universal adapter + antenna amplifier + reminder", the whole outfit starts making sense, increasing the phone range and reducing RF radiation inside the car.
I removed the annoying phone holding clip off the adapter and the iPhone 6+ is held by a brick-sized piece of 1" thick packaging foam attached with double-side tape to inside of the cover panel. |

The only difference is just additional microphone on the passenger side.

+1 don't get it, took it out in my F25, didn't order in the F15, way more room and you can code everything else for free.

It takes up a lot of room and with the iPhone 6 adapter, it still doesn't seem to improve reception.

Not to be a contrarian, but I definitely like my smartphone adaptor and I am glad I ordered that option. Yes, it takes up room in the center console and yes it is a pain to snap in every time you get in the X5 but I still like it. I don't like the exposed wire hanging around. Yes, the Bluetooth connection avoids the need for a cable, but I just like the direct connection that the snap in adaptor provides. Plus, you get a neat icon in the iDrive screen to let you know it is connected and it does charge my iPhone. I have an iPhone 6 plus so I had to opt for the universal adaptor which works fine (I liked the idea of the foam to hold it in place rather than the cheap clip that comes with the universal adaptor.

Ok, Guys thanks for the feedback. I settle for just the regular enhanced bluetooth and cable.
I was looking to see if the parts to retrofit the adapter are worth the $230.00 but I am not going to spend the money to try to find out. I already have the 2016 X5 in my hands...... Fully opt all the way with the exception of the smartphone base. The car was from an Executive at the BMW plant in the USA and I got lucky to get that fully option X5 for a sweet deal with only 7,000 miles. Appreciate the feedback always. |
