3.75" Slip-On Exhaust Tips for F85 - DIY
I wanted to share a simple yet inexpensive DIY upgrade for those who didn’t want to purchase an exhaust system, yet are looking for an overall stealthier look or simply wanting to match the remaining blacked out trim. p.s. This is my wife’s daily and she definitely didn’t want anything loud as she feel it’s a bit loud already. (I have exhaust valve mod). I went to the muffler shop as I wanted to raise the car on the lift making it easier to install but this can totally be done from the floor..
I bought the 3.75” slip-on tips from Burger tuning. They are currently on sale until they sell off the remaining inventory (see link below).. I do not think they will carry these afterwards so you may want to get yours ASAP if you’re interested in doing this mod. They don’t have black in stock so, only chrome or burned blue. You can get either one and powdercoat them black. I had mine done in satin black ($44). Prior to install, you need to cut off a small section of each tab which holds the tips in place. Each tip I believe has 5 tabs inside. I used simple metal cutters to do this. Get a pair of gloves and muscle these tips over your stock tips.. you may need to use decent amount of force to slap them on there so get a pair of thick gloves and give each tip several whacks to jam them on there (literally). Once installed, they will not be coming off again. For lease owners I’m sure BMW will not mind having it return with this, look 10X better than competition tips which came on my F10 M5. http://www.burgertuning.com/exhaust_...M3_M4_BMW.html Last edited by hybrid_eg; 11-12-2018 at 06:35 PM.. |

Do you have any pictures of the inside of the tips? I'm guessing the tabs are there to keep them installed. Why did you have to cut the tips of the tabs off? Did you do that to all of the tabs?
Thanks! |

yes each tip has 5 tabs i believe.. each tab needs to be cut otherwise it wont fit.. keep in mind these tips are not designed for F85 but for F80 instead hence the slight modification..

Nice DIY. I wonder if they'll fit the E70 X5M.

Looks good. Any reason why you went with chrome, when the same as stock? Visually are they that much larger or are you experiencing the same discoloration as me?
https://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...t=exhaust+tips Dealer is fine with replacing my entire exhaust under warranty (tips are not replaceable), but seems like a waste when it's just the driver-side tips. And I like to avoid service as much as possible due to potential for other problems.

Gentlemen, Why is there such a huge FUGLY gap between the top of your tips and your diffusers...

its how the OEM tips are positioned.. my diffuser is factory while EricU is aftermarket however same concept regarding their position.
I believe OEM tips are positioned a bit down because the OEM heatshield is very close to exhaust piping where the OEM tips begin. Even when adding burger tips i would recommend before installing them to bend the heat shield a bit upward to prevent it from coming in contact with the BMS tip since clearance is going to be even closer now than with OEM tips. Why did BMW design it this way? Well that's a questions i'm unable to answer. We are posting a cheap solution to enlarge your tips and enhance looks for close to nothing cost $ wise especially for those who do not want to have an aftermarket exhaust system on a family SUV. |

This was a good deal but I only just saw the thread and only the burnt blue/chrome tips are available. If anyone bought matte/gloss black and isn't using them message me.

If anyone is looking for a set of these exhaust tips let me know. I have a brand new, never used set in chrome. Could be easily powder coated black or to any color you like. Thanks - Kyle

Now stock exhaust tips spreads and it ends at the very end of the tip It’s 60mm at the beginning of the tip.
