How to check the catalytic converter on your F15?
Hi!
Long story short, my left end-pipe/tailpipe disappeared/felt/was stolen (this will remain a mystery). Therefore I am looking for one. But my main concern now is to find out if my catalytic converter has been stolen! With the view from underneath I could have, I think it was not. Based on this custom cata provider it seems the cata is right before the engine and at the front of the car: http://supercircuit.blogspot.com/201...npipe.html?m=1 So on the F15 (mine has a MPPK with MPE exhaust though) it's like this: From the end the muffler have one trapezoidal tailpipe on each side, then there is only duct to the engine. Is my understanding correct? Thanks! |

Oh no based on that photo, it looks like not only did they steel one of the exhausts but they also stole 2 cylinders.
Sorry couldn't help my self. If your undertray looks like that, then you have a 6 cylinder engine and those only have the 1 exhaust pipe. Only the v8's have the dual exhausts. The cat sections is the silver/shiny bit going up. So if your under sides look like that, your fine. Nothing was stolen. |

I admit I never check underneath and usually pictures shared are with 2 pipes. But mainly I see on those news that the cata is in the middle part of the car. Not sure if it's BMW specific that it's located close to the engine. Thanks again! |

Thanks for posting info as to what engine you have…it’s needed to help give you correct information.
The catalytic converter on your BMW (w/N55 engine) is up front right off the engine’s exhaust manifold…so they are not easy to steal. You can see the progression from the front of the car to the rear for the exhaust system: Cat is up front off the engine… …then there’s the front exhaust section… …which connects to the rear section with the muffler..
