50i brakes any different from 35i?

I just looked at my rotors and calipers and they are damn big for a stock ones
Rear ones could use some upgrade, but front ones are barely fitting into my 20 inch rims.
Are this stock on every x5 or 50i has a bit bigger ones?

So am I correct - it goes like this: MPBK > 50i > 35i ?

I'm just trying to see what's the real difference between them. I'm suspecting MPBK and 50i brakes are (more or less) very close to each other in terms of rotor size and performance. Basically it makes little sense for 50i owners to go for MPBK for minimal changes (for a lot of money), BUT it makes more sense for 35i owners to upgrade from their (smaller) brakes

I believe these are the rotor sizes:

MPBK - 395mm front, 385mm rear
50i - 365mm front, 345mm rear
35i - 332mm front, 320mm rear

The MPBK has four-piston fixed front calipers, while the rear has a single-piston sliding rear calipers. I?m not sure what the stock models come with. My X5 50i had the MPBK when I got it used. Not sure they?re really needed, but they look amazing! Brake dust is an issue as is some squeaking while braking in reverse.

35i/50i uses single piston sliding calipers for both front and rear. i wonder if the 50i rotors can be used with the 35i calipers.

Winn thank you for your info! I was just wondering why does realoem have 2 options for front rotors on 50i:
1. 365mm like you mentioned
2. 385mm - not sure what is this one about? It's not MPBK, but not 365mm either

You can see it here on diagram: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=34_0976

If they have same calipers, but different size rotors - could it be that it's just a different size caliper bracket? So basically buying caliper bracket for 50i - will let you install bigger 50i rotors. Just saying not sure if that's possible

Ok according to realoem - it seems like 50i and M50d use same calipers and same caliper brackets - but different rotors 365 vs 385

Does that mean we 50i owners can upgrade our rotors to 385mm ones as a plug-n-play?

I couldn?t say for certain, but if you have the optional spare tire, it will not fit with the larger rotors...you?ll need to get the spare that comes on the X5M.

The 35i brakes might be the smallest, but I can go a month and a half without needing to wash my wheels!

Just wondering if that is mainly due to different pads material or everything plays a role like size of rotors, calipers etc?

Ok, so I just measured my front rotors and they are 385mm in diameter. I bought my 2014 50i as a CPO in NY dealership. How is that possible that I have M50d rotors?
I mean I can't complain lol, but this is strange

first thing i thought of too but realoem shows different P/N for each caliper and mounting brackets between 35i/50i. this could mean the mounting holes on the caliper itself it slightly different between 35i/50i so its not just a simple bracket swap.

I went from 50i to MPBK onmy X6. There is definitely a difference. Far more stopping power. I had my first track day with the 50i brakes then installed the MPBK and did another track day. That's where the difference really showed. They are expensive but for me, it's worth it. Yep, you get a ton of dust, that's the trade off.

I swapped out my 35i brakes for 50i brakes and here are the facts:
Rotors are bigger on both front/rear.
50i front caliper is 2-piston vs. 1-piston on 35i
rear calipers look the same, but the brackets are different.
50i brakes coded as MPBK feel much better than stock 35i ones.
The whole setup is a direct fit, if you get everything. You don't need to change dust shields as those are the same.
