Tailgate lifting half way Ok to lift past?

I have my tailgate setting to only lift half way to avoid hitting garage door and then when out of garage I push up manually. Will this damage the struts? Or should I set for always to open fully and then stop when it reach the garage door?

I believe there is no significant difference between both approaches - none should cause any damage to the struts

Should be just fine. I don't see how that could damage the struts.
