Since my initial post I started using the X5 35i (no self leveling) to tow an open aluminum trailer loaded with a Porsche and it seems to work fine. The rear suspension does not sag very much at all. Tongue weight is about 500 lbs. and the loaded trailer weighs about 4,200 lbs.
