I love the Friday commute. Traffic is a little lighter, I can leave the house later, and MPG is off-the-charts.

I haven't been to a gas station since February!

It's no joke for me! On my daily commute, I'm regularly getting 70-90+ MPG.

I have a few rather specific questions for any 40e owners with the shift paddles (M Sport trim in the US, unsure about other areas):

What happens when the shift paddles are used while under electric power? Does the ICE start or do you stay under electric power? If you're in max eDrive, are the paddles ignored, is the eDrive mode changed or do you start shifting manually under electric power?

The manual says that electric driving and auto start stop are "deactivated" when the transmission's sport program is engaged (move the drive selector to the left). In an X5 without the shift paddles, the sport program must be engaged prior to manually shifting. With the shift paddles, it states that you temporarily enter manual mode and then exit manual mode after a period of normal driving. Does the manual mode from the shift paddles imply that the sport program is loaded as well?

For anyone curious WHY I'm asking this weird/niche question:
When I had my extended test drive, I had a weird moment where I was driving rather leisurely then slammed on the gas to get away a reckless driver. The vehicle took a second to recognize the need to start the ICE and then get the vehicle moving. I am curious if I could have tapped the shift paddles and woken up the ICE faster.

If you put the gear lever to sports mode (you can move it to right side when it's in D) it will immediately start the ICE. On another note, if you put it in sports mode, the ICE will never turn off even if you stop in the traffic.

Yup! I was able to verify that in my original test drive. I didn't have a model with the shift paddles though so I'm curious how they work. If they turn on the sports program and start the ICE, that would be great. I would really like to be able to start the ICE "manually" without taking my hands off the wheel

(UK) BMW X5 xDrive40e M Sport specification

Probably only applicable to those this side of the NATL but i'm thinking of hugging a tree and swapping out my 3D M Sport for the 40e M Sport.

Using the BMW configurator i'm thinking of the following:

Space Grey metallic.
20" light alloy wheels Star-spoke style 491 with Run-flat mixed tyres, high-gloss Black, size 10J x 20 in front with 275/40 R20 tyres, rear 11J x 20 with 315/35 R20 tyres.
Black Dakota leather
Fine-Brushed Aluminium interior trim on the instrument panel, centre console and all four doors, with Pearl Chrome trim finishers on the instrument panel and under the decorative strip on the doors.
Cold weather package
Seat heating, rear
Steering wheel heating
M Sport Package
M Steering Wheel
Adaptive M suspension
Exterior trim, High-gloss Shadowline
Roof rails, High-gloss Shadowline
Headlining, Anthracite
M aerodynamic bodystyling
Automatic transmission with gearshift paddles
Comfort seats, front
Trim designation deletion
Park Distance Control (PDC), front and rear
Optional equipment
Communication
Enhanced Bluetooth telephone with USB & Voice Control
Loudspeaker system - harman/kardon surround sound
Exterior Equipment
Exterior trim, High-gloss Shadowline
M aerodynamic bodystyling
Model designation deletion
Panoramic glass sunroof
Roof rails, High-gloss Shadowline
Sun protection glass
Trim designation deletion
Interior Equipment
Comfort seats, front
Headlining, Anthracite
Lumbar support, driver and front pass.
M Steering Wheel
Steering wheel heating
Safety & Security
Adaptive LED Headlights
High-beam Assistant
Driving Assistant Plus
Traffic Jam Assist
Automatic transmission with gearshift paddles

This comes to at least £64,500!

Anything I have missed that's worth the extra £££?

Thanks in advance.

I think in the UK that's included within the Driving Assistant Plus package.

I bought my 40e less than a month ago and just read about the 2017 40e coming with wireless charging and removing smartphone integration. That alone would have had me wait on the purchase. Below are a few of the minor changes coming to the 40e:

Atlas Cedar Metallic exterior paint replaces Mineral Silver Metallic.
Individual Extended Merino Leather upholsteries including Leather Dashboard are now offered.
Individual Metallic Paints.
Individual Piano Finish Black Trim is now offered.
20-inch Y-spoke wheels style 451 are now available as a stand-alone option.
Smartphone Integration is no longer available, as the functionality previously included in this option is now available wirelessly with Wireless Charging

Yes, before my Wife's commute to work.

We haven't filled up a tank of gas in a couple weeks now! Loving it.

Heads up for anyone who's ordering a 2017 40e in the US:

The US pricing guide includes standard equipment 4U9 "Acoustic protection for pedestrians" that was not in the guide for 2016. Google leads me to believe this is the same system that's in use on the i3 and can be heard here:

EDIT: Skip ahead to the 1:06 mark. The URL includes the timeskip but the forum doesn't allow that I guess.

I've got a request in with my client advisor for more details but he doesn't anything for me yet.

I'm taking delivery of one of the last few 2016 X5 40e (custom built in mid June). Dealer sent me a few photos and I noticed the gauge clusters are full LCD now. I thought only X6 got full LCD?

That's the normal 6WA gauge cluster. You can see the needles and the opening in the chrome/silver trim around the two main gauges faces down. The 6WB cluster has no needles when powered off as it's completely an LCD and the opening in the trim around the gauge "areas" face inward.
