Yet another maintenance question.. with a twist
Hi i'm new.. i dont think this exact question has been asked among the plethora of scheduled maintenance programs often discussed here. Let me start by saying the scheduled maintenance is not-transferred on the 2015 X5 I am buying from a dealer. I've owned 2006 and 2009 X5s prior.
I am buying a 2015 X5 35 with only 17k miles on it. Oil changes were done at 6k and 12k. The car original put in service December 2014. I'm getting the car for $42k, orig MSRP was $63,900. They are offering to extend maintenance until December 2018 for $800. So here is the nuance of the question. We all know sorta what scheduled maintenance is due at 30k, and 60k. But what about maintenance for AGE as opposed to mileage? I will probably only put 10k more on it by Dec 2018. So i will be expired BEFORE 30k even hits. Can anybody think of any "scheduled" maintenance that will arise between months 36 and 48 that would cost MORE than $800? I'm thinking there is none. when i googled around a site said there might be a brake flush at 25k? and some gasket change at 25k too? I probably wont even reach Schedule 1 by expiration. thanks and i hope to be a more involved member.. |

How are the brakes? What does iDrive tell you about the life left on them? I believe brake pads are also covered under maintenance so a new set of all 4 will run you over $400. Plus, oil, oil filters and air filters and wiper blades and all other regular fluids are covered. |

I mean this really shouldn't even be a "peace of mind" guess. Yes, I will check the brake service due on the OBC. But besides that there should be no more guessing involved. It only covers SCHEDULED maintenance, not warranty uh-ohs. I will need an oil change over next 15 months for sure. I probably will NOT reach the Service 1 interval at 30k. So what else possibly could show up as a SCHEDULED service in next 15 months and or next 13k miles? Remember I'm not allowed to just show up at the dealer at 25k miles and say "hey how about you flush the brake fluid and flush the coolant." its only if the OBC says to do it.

I bought a late 2014 with 10k miles and skipped similar offers since all I expect to need is an oil change. Unless you expect your brakes to wear off (get them measured), no reason to buy extended maintenance imo. Back in the day, I was able to get my SA to change the brakes with just a maintenance plan due to complaints of jerking when stopping. Also a few times they did out of warranty diagnosis work for me because they could couple it with some maintenance stuff. So it all depends on what you can get. |

I wouldn't buy it. You shouldn't rack up 800 in maintenance items by then. I am not familiar with any gaskets being a maintenance item. That should fall under regular warranty. If you don't have anything showing in OBC coming due then you have nothing.

I just found out that OBC says front brakes needed in 4k miles.. and rear needed in 8k miles. and i will do an oil change. so I think i would be in for nearly $800 over next 15 months of maintenance so i'm going to do it as a break even plus getting a loaner car versus cheaper cost at my local guy for out-of-warranty work. Yes it's the OEM maintenance plan and brakes are included. i double checked. thanks for feedback guys
