Yokohama BlueEarth Winter Tires
Has anyone heard of or tried these?
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...re=23VR1V905XL They are significantly cheaper than the Pirellis and come in stock staggered sizes for our 21s.

IIRC Vredestein made a winter tire in the 21" specs. I am not sure if they still make them since I have not seen them listed anywhere.

I just got my set of Yoko BlueEarth tires in the stock 21 inch sizes yesterday. I'll snap some pics this weekend (off the car). They will go onto the car in early November.

Please let us know how they turn out. I was going to buy a winter wheel setup, but would prefer to just keep my wheels and swap out some winter tires instead.

They will be installed on my car in about 2.5 weeks. I?ll report back. They look like a better tread patttern than the Pirellis

indeed.... the additional incisions between the chunks should displace water and snow much better than the pirelli design without these grooves.

Got the Yoko BlueEarth winter tires installed yesterday. Turns out it was just in time as it is snowing in Seattle as I type this (and was 35 and raining during my morning commute). Initial impressions
1. Tires are softer feeling than the MPSS. My guess is due to the softer sidewall 2. Immediate improvement in wet traction over the MPSS (in temps <45) 3. There is almost NO rim protection from the tire compared to the MPSS. I will be doing everything I can to avoid parallel parking the F86 with these tires on. 4. Dealer inflated them to 33psi cold. I may increase this. 5. I like this setup better than the square 20 inch setup I used to have so far. Will report more once I take the car into the mountains and drive in a few inches of snow.

Have you had the Pirelli Scorpion in the past? If so how do you feel they compare to those?

All that said, even if it turns out to be a worse sporty handling tire, it was $600+ cheaper for a set of the Yokos than the Pirellis. That can't be understated.

agreed... my concern is am i trading "performance" for savings... i would much rather have a better performing tire in the wet and snow than a more affordable option. now that is not saying that because the yokohama is cheaper it is an inferior product i am just curious to read about those who have experience with both. from the looks of it... the yokohama has a tread pattern that should outperform the scorpion and being a conventional tire as opposed to an rft it should have better handling characteristics in the cold since the sidewalls will be more forgiving.

Took the car for about a 120 mile drive last night and have to say the Yoko was really good. The sidewalks are stiffer than I thought and the tire performed sporty up until around 90 mph where you get toward the upper limit of its speed rating.
When I got to Snoqualmie Pass I got off the highway and got them on some icy roads and snow covered ski area parking lot (about 2 inches of snow). The tire was good and there was no slipping when applying the gas and no TC engagement happened

Just got these Yokohama winter tires mounted on an aftermarket set of 21 inch rims I got on eBay. So far so good, they drive well. I'll update after we get some snow and ice.

I can now report that snow and ice performance are tops! Had a situation in WA cascades last Saturday where the road turned from wet to ice in under a quarter mile and the tires transitioned well and bit the ice. Also needed to climb a 6 mile icy hill with 2500 ft elevation gain and had no issues with wheels pin or slipping. No traction control engagement.
