How warm does the heated steering wheel get?

Temps are starting to get a bit lower and for the first time I switched on the heated steering wheel. I've had this in a car in the past and it was definitely noticeable, nice and warm. In my F15 with M Sport steering wheel it's only slightly warm, I can tell it's on but it's not much. Is the heating feature just weaker in the M wheel than standard sport wheel, or is mine failing?

I appreciate any input because if I mention it at my next dealer visit I can guarantee they'll tell me "working as designed..."

Warm enough to feel real cozy on an ice-cold morning, but not so hot that it is uncomfortable to hold on to for a while.

Mine works great. Does anyone think the set inside temperature affects the heated steering wheel?

My Infiniti M37 it gets almost downright hot! Not a feature in my 2014 F15.

It seems logical to me that the cabin temp and steering wheel heat would be totally independent, but just in case I did try turning the air temp up. Didn't make a difference. I'll put it on the list for the next dealer visit. Thanks everyone for the replies.

Mine works quite well. Not too hot, just about right when I use it.

Yea, my Q70L gets really hot. My X5M gets warm. I think it will be perfect when it's cold.

it is indeed a fact that the M sport steering wheel (which is thicker than the standard steering wheel) reflects less heat than the standard steering wheel. I've experienced this between my own car (standard steering wheel) and the one from a friend (which has the M sport steering wheel).

In my case it heats up fast and enough to get warm hands and in most cases I turn it off after about 10 minutes.

M-sport wheel is perfect, the other wheel gets a bit too warm for me.

fwiw, another data point... Mine (Msport) gets plenty warm. I park outside at work and that's about the only time I use it, is when I first start it up, and then only if it's below freezing. Maybe 5 minutes is all it takes then I turn it off, or it gets pretty warm. It's not like it gets too hot to touch, or even what I would call uncomfortably hot. But if I just leave it on, it does get warm enough that it's a little... distracting, so I never just leave it on. By 5 minutes, the wheel is definitely as warm as I want it and the cab is getting warm enough that it's just not needed anymore. I'm not sure what your expectations are (everyone's definition of "warm" is different) but it sounds from your description like yours isn't really heating up as much as most others.

My F15 '15 gets super hot but the moment I touch the hot spot it feels like it gets cooler, I don't know if that's because it loses the heat and does not continuously heat or of the heating elements work in sections. It's just not hot enough to give me the toasty feeling when I am not feeling warm enough. Am I happy to have it? Absolutely, it still serves the purpose, but, I'll tell you this much. If I have to lean forward and to the side to check if I have it on or off, it means it's not hot enough.

Does anyone know if '18 models get indicator on dash or somewhere visible when the heated steering wheel is on? BMW and their terrible design on heated steering button.

Agreed, they definitely could have put an indicator in the gauge cluster rather than on the button itself which is difficult to see.

After trying it out a few more times, mine does get warm enough to be satisfactory only at the top. The rest of it is so slight I need to check the button to know.

All of my Range Rovers, the heated steering wheel was actually almost too hot. I find the BMW heated wheel to be just perfect. Warm, just enough to take the chill off.

I'd love to get Range Rover HVAC in a BMW, and keep the BMW iDrive, Infotainment and heated steering wheel. Oh, and I would love to have Range Rover ventilated seats in a BMW. Range Rover and even Ford actually blow A/C thru the seats and Range Rover even blows warm air for heating. Wonderful.
