19" or 20" wheels?
I live in the MidAtlantic. Any thoughts for a leased X5 50i, do I go with the 19s or 20s? My eyes / heart say 20s, my brain say 19s. Thoughts?

20's. I convinced myself to stick with the 19's for practical purposes (curb rash, pot holes, etc) then quickly found out a set of 19" winter wheels and tires wasn't much less than getting a set of 20's second hand (easy to do on here from anyone taking theirs off). I did just that and I'll put snow tires on the stock 19's for winter. So, if I had it to do over, I would probably have opted for the 20's in my build. I never intended on using the stock 19's year round. All-seasons just get too hard in the winter IMO.

I decided to go with the 20" and high performance tires. I also ordered the spare tire as it is my plan to replace the RFT soon with all season 20" which are not run flat. That is where the spare tire comes in to play.
My heart won out over my brain as I just like the looks of the 20". I live in southern PA so I understand the weather factor. |

HansRobert, you hit the nail on the head. On a three year lease I only have to purchase one set of 20 all season tires and return the x5 with the run flats with about 5k on them. Cheapest, easiest, way to enjoy the 20s cause IMO the msport looks anemic with 19s and I didn't want the expense or pia of swapping rims.

20s but only if your going to get another set for winter. If you don't plan on buying winter setup get the 19s (assuming your somewhere you get snow)

If you run 20" and don't want a run flat, try Delinte D8 Desert Storm all-season tires. I currently have them on my 22's (285/35R22 on all 4), and I'm really happy with how they handle in all weather so far; they grip the road really really well even in heavy thunderstorms so far. For the price, they are really solid. I have yet to test them in snow because I got my car in April of this year, but based on many forum reviews, these tires apparently handle really well in snow on 20" and 22" wheels.
I know, I know...22's can't be driven in winter, etc., but I've read plenty of forums and discussions regarding this already, especially in the Land Rover forums. People have done so without issue - it's really divided based on personal experiences/lack thereof. I've already gone off-roading on grassy/muddy slopes/hills without any slipping/issues with my setup....I know...again...shocker. Color me impressed. I guess the X-line really does what it's supposed to do . I don't recommend trying what I've done, but these tires are definitely worth looking into if you're on a budget or just want a good larger rim tire all year round. Of course, I'll report back my findings in winter. Just thought I would share .

20's...case closed. Artdnj said it best, the M Sport looks "anemic" with the 19's.

The 20's look awesome on the M sport. If you're leasing, just yank off the rubber that comes with the car after a few 1000 miles and put on an all weather non-runflat setup (about 1000 bucks). Then, when you get ready to turn in, put the stock tires back on. That will save you a lot of money, the all weather tires will last longer and, of course, not kill you in the snow/ice.

Since you are leasing, why the confusion?
Is it because of the price? Additional $950 in the leasing program is almost invisible. If it is because of the tires, then other members has answered your question.
