Popping sound from Interior X5M

I have a late '15 X5M with only 1500mi on my vehicle and since new, the car has been making this popping noise coming from the passenger side of the vehicle.

I took delivery of the car in March 2016 and it made this popping sound with 40 miles on the car. Then a few weeks later, it disappeared and didn't come back until recently. I've had my dealer look at it, but they are puzzled and can't figure out where it is coming from or what's causing it. My dealer has been excellent and are committed to finding a solution, but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.

Here is a video I took. At first I thought maybe its coming from the passenger side mirror getting stuck when dipping down in reverse, but I put it back it drive and its still popping. The car is stationary and not moving, but it will still make the sound when the car is in motion.

Have a look and let me know what you guys think...

Check the speaker, get close to it and see if that comes from the system, I had similar problem only in the rear

I have a popping sound every time the ac comes on for 5 seconds. It happens when I increase the fan speed too, but only for a few seconds.

Thanks for the reply guys...

We do think its coming from the speakers. I feel like its coming from the right side of the car, near the front passenger quadrant, but when the shop foreman sat in the car, he thinks its coming from the middle, left of his ear.

I just have the standard HK sound system so the only speaker near the center is the one on the dash.

What's strange about this issue is that it seems to happen when the weather is cold near 32F. Not sure why...but it never happened during the summer months.

Is is possible that it is related to the right rear view mirror? Sounds seems to happen just right when the mirror start to rotate upwards.

Hard to tell from the video.

When you sit in the car, close your eyes when listening for the sound. It is much easier to find what side of your body a noise comes from when you close your eyes. Sounds strange but it is true.

It's not the mirror. I flipped it back into drive and waiting for it to full go back to its original position and it still pops.

That's what I was thinking too but the foreman said its not. It doesn't sound like AC servo motor noise but my new S Class had a similar issue and they found out it was the servo arm wasn't lubed from the factory and would make a knocking noise every time the auto air distribution would change.

My plan to leave it with them this week and let them investigate further.

Also check active sound see if they can disable it for you. There is something here somewhere where you can pull a plug and disable it at least temporarily to eliminate that. I had that issue prior, also open you trunk on the left side pop the panel where the amp is and check the wiring try to wiggle them around and recheck if the problem persists

That's a good point. I was going to ask them about that and will do so when I bring it back this week.

Was your popping sound similar to mine? Thanks!

I have hard times with dealers!! They tend to open here and there to check the problem, and at the end of the day more rattle sounds coming out..

Check the F15 X5 forum. There is a thread talking about rattles and creaks coming from the tailgate. Mine had it right from the start. Lucky the fix is super easy and it eliminated my rattles

my rattles are coming from inside the steering wheel housing and the area by the cup holders.

I have the rattles from the cupholders. I think its the spring loaded finger things that secure the cup.

I've got a popping that is dampened by closing the moon roof cover.

And then on long drives in the sun, the dash by the instrument cluster starts creaking / making noise.

edit: OP this sounds similar to mine. close your moon roof cover and see if it gets much quieter.

I tried that thinking it was the cover too. But it still makes that popping noise regardless of the cover position.

I have the moon roof pop and gargle sound when it's raining / wet and water sits almost like it sounds like it's drinking profuse amounts of water but goes away when I close the shade cover too. Happens directly over my head.
Super annoying. Dealer is basically useless.
