I know, but up here, spanking is a firm "no no" by the government. They can take your child away, just for spanking on the bottom.

Its ridiculous. I grew up with the wooden spoon and I see that it was good for me. I just have to figure out a way of discipline that is effective and also within the confines of the law and yet is also loving.

For a shorter flight I would probably recommend one of the more remote Caribbean islands - Anguilla, Antigua, St Lucia, etc. You'll get that once-in-a-lifetime beach experience without the ridiculous flight.

Don't get me wrong - South Pacific, Maldives, Hawaii are each incredible, but you can find plenty of incredible trips in the Caribbean and not need the long flights.

I've been to a lot of places but that's one I would not recommend to anyone. I told a coworker this same thing but she went anyway. She came back and told me I was absolutely right in my assessment.
My perception must be a bit skewed because of where my hotel was (Pueblo Bonito Sunset, west of the arch). I do remember the main beaches you could actually go into (in the hotels near the town) having annoying vendors. I don't understand why hotels allowed that.

Wife and I got married and then stayed in Hawaii for 10 days (10 years ago). Went to St. John last February. Both were great but I liked St. Maarten better. Year before went to Barbados, liked all of the above better.

For the length of the trip and the extra costs for everything I prefer the Caribbean over Hawaii, feels like I get an extra day while being gone the same amount of time because of the long flight. Also prefer the clearer, calmer water and the variation of each island and what being in a foreign country (not St. Thomas, Croix, John) offer. I would like to go back to one of the British Virgin Islands and actually stay there.

I would hit the Caribbean up as well. Hawaii is overrated and full of tons of people. What about Europe? Or the Mediterranean?

Hence my Kauai suggestion. It's paradise and nearly empty.

I'm going back to BG in May, btw. Just booked!

My wife is from Shumen so we're bringing the kids to meet their great-grandmothers. Flying into SOF then driving over. Flights to Varna had too many layovers. Even when the dollar was weak, BG was inexpensive outside of the tourist areas. We were there in 2008 and a beer was like 1.5 levs.
