In the US, diesels are emission issues, lots of them.

True. But it if the beemer stays longer in the repair shop than if you drive it - like mine did, it becomes a rather annoying problem, regardless of the length of the warranty included.

50i is engine with many problems .. often leads to engine replacement

381hp from 3L Diesel is almost to the maximum...
Often at 100k or 120k intercooler explode, then all goes into one of the turbines, then to another, then to the engine... then 12000eur damage.

I wouldn't exactly go as far to call it often. Maybe enough that we read about it, people complain about it, and some will worry about it, but I don't think I've actually personally known anyone who's BMW N63 motor has gone and needed replacing, and certainly mine is running just fine.

Every 3th engine is replaced here in Europe. I know personally few people with 3 replaced engines during the warranty period.
Its doesn't matter is x5, 5, 6, 7 series.. N63 is pain in the a$$..
