Tires Run flat vs non RF?
Sorry if discussed. Getting close to needing new tires. I switched out run flats on my last Z4 and was wanting to do the same with X5. Have others done so? Does it make a difference in ride? Any tire recommendation? I have the 2014 35i with 20 inch wheels. Thanks
I just put the M Mobility kit in the Z4 |

I just changed to 21" wheels with non-RFTs and got the skinny spare for piece of mind. Since finding the MPSS in 21" can be a hassle (especially the rears) I got a full size 21" spare as well, the front one, so I can use it in the front or back in case of a supply shortage. Maybe to anal, but got a good deal on it, so why not?

Since you're sorry for asking, this question gets posted about once a week...
Yes a lot of people have switched to non-RF tires and the consensus is make sure you have the spare if you choose to do so.

And generally speaking the ride is softer and more compliant.

I think the P Zeros are an exception to this. I went from P Zero RFT to Michelin Super Sports (20" to 21"). The P Zeros were very comfortable, and the Michelins are equally as comfortable but the control I have over the vehicle is night and day. The MPSS by far wins in that department. There is a lot less roll.

But then you have no trunk space.

I swapped from the RFT P-Zeros (which barely lasted a year) to Conti DWS06 for my summers. Much better ride, and quieter. Wear seems excellent so far. I run RFT Pirelli Snow & Ice for winter skins.

When I bought my X5 I was planning on dumping the RFT's so I ordered it with the spare tire option. I replaced the OEM Pirelli Scorpion Verde RFT's with Michelin Premier LTX. The ride is smoother, quieter and steering feels less 'twitchy', which I prefer. I think I may have also seen a slight improvement in mpg's with the LTX's. The only drawback to the LTX's, since they are quieter and smoother I find myself driving faster, often 20+ over speed limit.
