Nappa leather durability

Guys,

I've a question regarding mocha nappa leather durability (7S8), which is included with m-sport package on '17 X5.

How durable it is with ventilated seats expecially with kids? I know it has perforations and soft in general, while Dakota more stiff.

IF you were to choose, would you get more stiff black Dakota with perforated ventilated seats or Nappa without ventilated?

Thanks in advance.

Nappa is def. more vulnerable to damage but only if something sharp comes in contact with it. My last 3 bmws came with Nappa and with two kids I've never had issues with it scratching or tearing. You just have to take care of it for it to keep looking good as does every type of leather. Kids are fine but if you have dogs that stay in the car with you then i would be more worried due to their nails.

Nappa looks 100x more expensive compared to Dakota so for me its well worth the slight risk.

Alan,

Do you have ventilated seats as well? I think some were not very happy with nappa plus ventilated but it's probably personal preference...

I have it on my X5M but not on my F15 X5 35i.

I don't feel a difference in comfort. With that said the ventilated seats option is more of a gimmick. It doesn't really cool you much so keep that in mind.

Thanks, one question though, still.

Spec shows that I can get 7S8 which is mocha leather with M-sport, but does it require ZMD package as well? Can I get just mocha leather without mocha interior design package? I've not understood the ordering spec completely.

I have the Mocha Nappa ventilated seats. It's the number one compliment I receive from people riding in my car. I've got 38K miles on my X5 and it looks brand new. I use Swissvax Leather Cleaner to keep it looking nice. I have a two year old, and it's very easy to keep looking great.

It's not so much about cooling as it is about venting, the airflow helps to keep the back of your shirt from getting sweaty on sunny days or long rides. Notice that BMW doesn't refer to them as air-conditioned seats, if the seats were air-conditioned I don't think it would be very comfortable.

Have the mocha nappa package with multi-comfort seats. I use the SWISSVAX products also. Nappa feels and looks much better than dakota in our X. Been very happy with the choice. At 2+ years and 33k miles looks as good as the day we took delivery.

Wish Nappa came in black like it does in other countries. Darn!
