White grill

I just purchased a 2016 m sport in alpine white. My previous x5's (e70's) were black and I put black grills on. With this one being white, I was considering doing white grill surrounds with gloss black slats. Has anyone done this? Would love to see a pic before I spend the money.

I have personally not seen anything like it. When I googled those where the only pictures that came up... Not a big fan, but hey, everybody's taste is different. A couple of years ago I had Grill's painted in gloss bmw red on my E90, got tired of it after a couple of weeks and bought new black ones.

Hope that helps...

Personally I think you need to black on the front grills to offset against all the white and match the other trim, but I thing it would look decent with the surrounds white and the slats black, would give the effect of smaller openings I think - a lot of the e90 guys do it.

i also have a white m sport and have put the black grills on, they do look good, but the idea of white surrounds with black slats has crossed my mind... i might try it on my original set see how it looks.

Not a fan...I agree with the above comment, you need some contrast to the front end. That said, its your ride...do what you think looks best, doesn't really matter what others think.

I definitely don't want all white - I am concerned that the white surround with black slats will still be too much. Why I was hoping to see a pic of it done before paying a couple hundred bucks to find out if I like it or not.

But thanks for everyone's input.

Jdavuga , I had a customer that requested the outer ring to be painted mineral white. I never seen it installed though since the customer is out of state.
Maybe you want to do some photoshopping before pulling the trigger.

meh! They look kinda weird to me - like there is a large bead of caulk around the grill keeping it together.

i like them, i think the black rimmed grills look more ricey to me, it looks like everyone is trying too hard to "hook their car up" they dont blend in to the car and stand out like a sore thumb or some super plump lips on another california house wife!

Couldn't agree more. For some reason; on the white X5, I do not like the black grill surrounds. I'll email you a pic of it stock with the chrome surrounds and titanium fins. I think the white surrounds make a night and day difference for the WAY better. But opinions are like a$$holes, all of us have 'em, some of 'em stink!

100% agree. The pics don't do the Mineral White grill surrounds justice. It looks very mean and clean in person. If i had it to do over again; and knew the double slat X5M grill inserts were available, would prolly do those just because I like to have things different, but tasteful and hot! In a sea of stock X5 hamburgers, I like to have a juicy steak! :-)

I don't like the stock look. The chrome with titanium completely clashes in my opinion. Especially when you have an M Sport X5 that has zero chrome on the vehicle except for the tailpipes. For the life of me, I CANNOT understand why the M Sport package does not change the tailpipes to the black finish (like the X5M50d export model) and why they leave the Chrome grill surrounds with titanium fins. Makes zero sense in my opinion as they remove all other chrome from the vehicle.

You do realize that there are M performance gloss black grills available for purchase and High heat resistant paint that can be used to DIY the exhaust tips?

Here is what it looks like on a White exterior X5 Msport
