Ha Ha! Looking good.... this is how it all starts.. at least it did for me..
I started with all the "cheap easy mods" first... front grill swap, tints, then rear roof spoiler.. after a while I added the front spoiler lip, MPPK, MPE, rear diffuser...

Should have gone with dual slat kidney grill.
But it still looks good though. That reflector is an eye sore IMO.

Time it takes to replace the front reflectors on the 50i?

I'm tempted to do it on my Carbon Black...

About 1 hour.
You are local to me, right?
I can install it for you.

Looking good!

Gotta replace that reflector ASAP. Don't understand why US cars are fitted with them from the factory, but then it's fine for you guys to swap them out as soon as you get the car?

Antiquated regulations. Similar to all of the adaptive lighting and laser lights we are not getting with the new 7 series. What a shame. You'd think they could match the paint and still have it be reflective. Similar to running shoes.

Are you penalized for replacing them, or do the police simply ignore it?

Technically could be penalized, but inspections here are nowhere as stringent. Main point of inspections here are with regard to emissions, not mechanical. That's why headlight bulb and assembly retrofits are technically illegal yet no one would be called on it by an officer or DMV inspector.

I'm thinking of getting the double slat grills myself. Hard part is the gloss or the matte. Is the matte basically the same as the other unpainted black trim on the car?

If you have the Msport then your black trim is gloss not matte.

I have Luxury, so most stuff is chrome. But there a bunch of unpainted pieces like the side vents and vents under the bumper, etc., so wondering if the matte looks like that.

Oh... you're talking about the trims by the rocker panel and the front and rear bumper trims.
I could be wrong, but I don't think the Matte finish will be the same as those trims since the trims are not matte finish either.

A gloss black will never go wrong, because a matter just will look raw and unfinished. While a kidney grill is BMW's signature grill where it has to stand out.

i was able to wrap my reflectors in a metallic black vinyl that perfectly matched the car.

this would be a very simple solution for states or countries with inspections, very easy to do, and easily removed and replaced.

Here in Vancouver, I don't think the cops really even care. I've gone through multiple road checks and have never had any issues with body colour reflector replacements both front and rear.

Same here in NYC and NJ... maybe cops don't really pay attention to SUV's.

I never had or heard anybody got harassed for them.
Maybe, if you are driving ricers, maybe they will give you a hard time.
Even European cars with loud muffler, somehow the cops just don't give that much attention compares to the ricers.

^^ Couldn't agree more. [knocks on wood] I haven't run a front plate on my Audi since new (2007), nor do I run one on my X5 (2014) or on the 1'er...never had an issue. When I used to run plate-less on my Civic SiR back in the day, I got hassled all the time.
