What colour do I paint my calipers???
Having driven less than 1000 miles my calipers and hubs are suffering from the dreaded rust I've seen mentioned in other posts. I'm looking to paint them but a bit stuck on what colour to go for.
The car is sapphire black with style 491 wheels so I'm thinking do I just stick with stock silver, possibly black or go for the M blue? The problem I have with the blue is that I've never been a fan of trying to make my cars something they're not.....and it isn't an X5 M.... But I do like the blue. Any thoughts, suggestions, picrures are welcome. |

I'd go for pink. Real men sport pink.

Silver. Simple, looks OEM, won't have to deal with rusty calipers.

I say black or silver. Brakes should only be a stand out color if they're upgraded.
I have a Saphire black and if I get an M-brake kit I want to paint the calipers a bronze tone. Like the older Brembo GT kits. |

Silver it is, thanks for the input!
Still think it's shit that I have to even do this, never had to paint calipers or hubs on any car I've ever owned, never mind an X5 with only a few 1000 on the clock.... Already had to fork out on having 3m protective film put on due to stone chips appearing on the rear arches and now have to protect these! |

purchase a set of oem m performance brakes and going on with life or spray your current set up matte black and going on with life.

I did my the BMW M Performance Blue. here is the link to the post. I have done two sets, my origional callipers and also a set of M50D, which I upgraded on my car. I did propert power coating, as previous DYI painting, fails after about 18 months.

Link to some images of how bad they've gotten since I picked it up mid Jan:
https://goo.gl/photos/jGqiNdb4qDudm92Y9 puckybadger, I can't stop noticing them now I know they're like this. On a positive note, rang the BMW bodyshop just to to ask how much their paint would be, the body shop rang the Sales Manager (they don't believe it should be this bad after a few weeks) and it is now going in on 23rd so fingers crossed it won't cost me anything to get sorted........ |

Agreed on the painting of non-upgraded brakes. But, if you must...I'd say something low-key or simple, like black or a charcoal grey. Love the grey calipers w/ BMW logo on our E82. Simple.

Saw the photos, Man, they are shocking. Yes, have them painted. ensure they apply heaps of clear as well. Go the blue, my wife gets stopped every other week asking who did the breaks. Post pictures when finished. I gloss black also looks good.

after seeing these pictures my heart dropped....
this vehicle needs to go back to the dealership right now!this has to be more than usual, what is the build date of the vehicle? that is not ok, i would complain of inadequate brakes, and you feel "Unsafe" do to the rust and potential failure... i have never seen rust this bad on a vehicle that isnt sitting in the grass since the 1990s....through winter seasons... i mean even your lug nut wheel lock is rusting...i live in south florida and my vehicle spends days at a time parked at the beach with salt spray, days underwater in the rain, and everyday getting blasted by my sprinklers....not a spot of rust on my hubs or brakes like this...

I think OEM looks the best unless you are going for BBK. Painted calipers look too fast and furious.

painting small single piston calipers is only highlighting the fact that you have absurdly small brakes on a very large vehicle.
