dummy lights on BiXenons?

just got our 2015 x5 x-line with biXenon headlight. noticed that the "lamps" nearer to the grille don't actually light up, except for the corona LED daytime running lights. anyone else noticed this? I called the dealer, and he said he hadn't noticed this before and figured that they are dummy lamps just for show.

I just posted a picture in the other thread, but I'll do so here so everyone can see. Here's a link on the X3 as to why it's a dummy light not just on the F15 X5: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=738399.

thanks for that quick response Opasha. I read the other thread now, and it puts my mind at ease now that I know it's not just my x5 with the dummy lights!

I believe in some other series (not just X3) they use the inner lamps as turning lights, is it 4's or 6's? I forgot which ones but I did see them.

Of course, with LED lights, you get all four functioning lamps.

You are correct. I read in detail they actually also use all four lights if you have only halogens rather than Bi-Xenons. I'm sure some other vehicles definitely have them. I'm assuming they aren't used in the X5 or X3 (and similar setups) because it would blind people - too strong of a light. I got flashed a lot for my stock Bi-Xenons - VLD fixed that thankfully. So you can just imagine how much stronger they would be if both were lit up. I think people would actually buy the Bi-Xenon headlamps over the LEDs if this were the case, but the issue would be one (less money for the company because they would sell less LEDs), two (how to angle the Bi-Xenons so that they were still functional without blinding people), and three (you would probably not be able to see the HALOS that well just from looking at the pictures you posted).

In my UK spec F15 with Xenon headlamps the inner lamps are turning lamps, they turn on when indicating left or right or when turning the steering wheel.

I was initially confused as to what they did as it seemed daft to have bulbs in them for them to not work, they are only halogen bulbs though rather than Xenons so look quite yellow compared to the main lights.

I thought that the turning lamps were the fog lights on the F15.

Ah, yes that's what they are on many Euro cars - same for the X3 I read.

They are, but I guess some markets decide to add them elsewhere.

Hello

I think if you have xenon adaptive then the inner light is use as turning light, if you have xenon without adaptive the inner one is a dummy.

But, all the F15 Bi-Xenons should be adaptive. Mine are. I don't have halogen inner turning lights. My LED fogs are my turning lights.

In that case it’s a eu/na spec difference, here i EU you can order the X5 whit Xenon non adaptive and they just have dummy inner light but the adaptive option give you the inner light for turning, i guess BMW are trying to have a more exclusive image for the x5 in NA than in EU

Yet they give European markets the amazing Anti-Dazzle LEDs, haha. I don't think it has anything to do with exclusivity. We get most of our cool features decoded that we need to have coded through ESYS. BMW is just stupid, plain and simple, with their configurations around the world.

The thing that bothers me the most about the differences between EU/NA markets is the prices of the cars, here we are paying about $95 for a slightly used 30d-sport whit standard equipment, that sucks

Yes, stock lights in the UK are BiXenon non adaptive, adaptive BiXenons are extra as are Adaptive LED lights.

+1, we're paying well over what they are in the US for the same thing, admittedly not as bad as in Singapore though . It's even worse than being the same number of GBP as it is USD as often happens resulting in us paying 1.5/1.6 times the US price.

My 40d non M Sport with a fair bit of kit was nearly 100,000USD and I believe you can get a 50i with just about everything for that in the US .

Although I Understand why US F15 only gets the stupid single Xenon on each side, I still hate this.

But anyway I really like how this F15 Corona rings look like. This is why my wife didn't buy E70 at the time but agrees to get F15 now. The cool looking lights are with a more squarish shape than the traditional double round headlights. This makes cars look much much better. IMO.

When you put E70 and F15 together and look at their angel eyes, you will see the huge difference.
