Fuel Symbol

Can anyone tell me what this symbol means? It's not always there. I am referring to the dot that moves.

Looks like there are four ways to see how much fuel you have left. Not sure which one to trust.

Thanks!

"The dot (could be White, could be Orange, based on daylight) appears when you have a destination active in the nav system, and is trying to show whether you have enough range to make it to your destination. The range varies, based on your fuel consumption, and decreases as you consume fuel. So, over time, your range bar shortens bringing the end of the range bar closer to the dot. With a far off destination, it is possible for the dot to render to the right of your current range, or perhaps not render at all (too far still)." http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=672075

Isn't that the average MPG or how much you have "left" based from your driving habit on THAT particular driving session

You have a totally different instrument cluster to me...don't get that display when I use Sat Nav. Unless its yet another BMW 'Regional Thing'.

I get it Baunton - so it's not a regional thing. I wonder if it's a cluster thing?

The funniest and most useful military term, in my opinion. Excellent timing by you.

Recently I have noticed that my DOT is always on the far left, closed to 0, even though my trip is only 10-30 miles away. Where did I go wrong?

Thanks.

Ya same thing happened to me today. I don't think the dot means what Opasha initially said.

Yeah, that was from a different bmw, so I'm not sure how much of that has changed across platforms. It might be as originalgoods13 stated maybe?

The 'dot' shows you how much of your fuel range you will use to get to your navigation destination.

Hence, short, 10-30 mile, journeys will have the dot close to zero. Try inputting a remote destination and you will see it move further right and then move left as you cover the distance. Unfortunately, so does the overall fuel range!

Thanks. Well, I was thinking of reading the DOT from another end... Wrong.
