Shift farts

Just put a BM3 stage 1 tune on. Now it farts when it shifts. lol. Does this sound better with an aftermarket exhaust? I've read about other people loving their gurgle noises. Is this fart noise what you all are calling a gurgle?

FWIW, if this tune made ME fart every time I shifted gears I would still keep it because it's TOO much fun!!! I can't say enough how happy I am to ditch the Macan for a F85!

What I don't get is why it needs to be done on an automatic transmission? I understand needing to cut the ignition during upshifts on dual clutch transmissions but on automatics is it really that necessary just to prevent a little friction plate slippage?

Unburnt gas exploding out your tailpipe is never a good sounding thing... Especially if your on a date

To answer your question, downpipes and aftermarket exhaust usually make it worse. Installing resonators to absorb those nasty farts will kill the sound.

It can technically br eliminated by software by just not cutting the ignition during upshifts. Good question to ask the folks pro tuning freaks If this is possible and what drawbacks would be.

Thanks for the explanation! Sounds like this is by design and actually needed vice just being a sound making function. Just sounded funny the first time hearing it in person. I'm sure I'll get used to it.

Its done for the exact same reason on the 8hp trans. Torque interruption to allow shift to complete faster.

In the uk the M2C is so muted with the opf, you guys are so lucky all your stuff sounds great. My only consolation is the gurgle on the X5, I love it and gurgle is such a great description. The farts just make me laugh especially if it's a well timed fart past an open window 😂

Most torque management events, during a shift, are actually pulling a bunch of timing for a split second rather than shutting off the ignition completely.
Pulling timing makes it really loud. When you first start the car when cold, it is excessively loud for a few seconds. That's because the computer pulls timing to raise the exhaust temps and heat the cats quicker.
I'm a Corvette tuner, not a BMW tuner but I'd bet it is the same. If you datalog a WOT run, you'll see the timing drop to zero or even lower during the shift. It gives you a quick "brap" sound.

Maybe I'm missing something here.

My 2017 X5M is completely stock and has the loud "braap" sounds during aggressive upshifts at higher RPMs. Just want to confirm others with factory specs are getting the same. :P

I don't ever notice it anymore so it probably did it on the stock tune as well. I also didn't use sequential shift mode much when it was stock either though.

Last week I did load xHP flash stage 2 for my transmission, cause got stage 2 for my engine about 5 months ago, that person who did it for me, highly recommended me to do transmission too, and NOW it's throwing me check engine and lowering power with message on a screen to proceed in bmw service and drive moderately, after that I changed back on stock and everything get back in place and accelerates perfect, that was stage 2(stage 1, stage 2, stage 3 available in that program) so after that changed back but on stage 1 this time, intermittently emits exhaust gases pretty much same like on stage 2, but don't giving me any checks on a dash and screen*♂️
Guys does anyone knows what a hell is that and how to fix it, my x6 is pretty fresh only 60 000km, car is fully serviced in bmw specializing service.
