I don't understand. How is "hauling a quart of oil around" any effort at all. It's no more effort than a first aid kit, a few simple tools, etc. Again, it's just common sense.

Uh, BMW. Castrol. I've got a case of 5W-30 and a case of 10W-60 sitting in my garage right now. All liter bottles.

you take the chance of the bottle leaking. plus this is my fourth bmw and i've never needed to add oil. but then again i dont follow bmw's extended oil change intervals.

I am really surprised the OP needs to add oil between the normal factory service. I just changed mine at 5500 mi and it was right up to the full mark on the dipstick before I drained it.

bmw v8 tend to burn oil, and can get low if you dont change the oil frequently.

put a quart/liter of BMW brand oil in the hidden compartment where you got your free cargo net and you are now prepared for just in case.

Going on 40 years of driving and I've never had one leak. I don't follow BMW's intervals either. I do my own change halfway in between the free ones. Or after a track day.
