Mountain Bike in trunk??

Hi Folks. I'm back after a long absence (sold our X3 last year) as I have an X5 in production and will be delivered hopefully in a couple weeks. One of the things I am trying to get a grip on is how I will transport my mountain bike......

There is the expensive route of installing a hitch and using a hitch-mounted bike rack, but it sure would be a lot easier if I could just drop the rear seats and stick in the back.

Can anyone confirm that is an option?

Yes, it works! I have a Marin Rift Zone 5 and it fits well.

It works but your gonna scratch both the bike and X.. done it -- Have a
Gary Fisher bike (before Trek Fisher Collection ) and it can awkward

Just use my GMC, All Terrain,, also been better than taking the X down some of
the roads leading to the trails

Thanks guys. I guess I'll just have to try it out and see if I can do it safely enough.

When you say I will scratch both bike and X, where would you expect the scratches? I'm not overly concerned about the bike since I put that on the line every time I hit the trails anyway

When I get finished usually tired. Just want to get the bike in and go.
Don't bother with the wheel removal sometimes.

So pushing in the 29 wheels, have scuffed the sides and tailgate with
the pedals/ Derailleur. Its a pretty good size bike to fit. If bike muddy,
it does get in the carpet and leather. Have a mat but never seems
be where needed

Understood. I do plan to install a liner from canvasback to protect the carpeting. Hopefully that will help somewhat. Thanks for the input.

i purchased a invisihitch and installed myself, now using a thule t2 pro and couldn't be happier with the setup

i have a trek 8.4ds that i lay flat with the seats folded down.

usually go with seats folded down, and you can always purchase a sheet of vinyl that you can lay down to save your interior from getting grease all over it

I've had my Cannondale CAAD10 road bike in the trunk in my E70 with the cargo mat.
Only problem is the rear tail cover hits the bike and may mark it up without any protection. Haven't tried it on my F15, plus I ride my bike instead of transporting it to where I want to ride

Canvasback is a great option and it protects the seat backs as well. easily removed for cleaning etc

Nice! I put my 27.5" mountain bike in the trunk of my 4 series coupe multiple times a week. With the seats folded down and the front wheel off, it fits easily. I think if you took the front wheel off (i know, slightly more work) it would ride a lot better and not mark up the interior as much. I just lay a towel over the fork/bars and then set the tire right on that. Works great.
