I just changed from a 2014 X5 M50D to a 2017 X5 M50D Individual limited edition. I still have the rubber flaps at the door edges.

I actually love the new iDrive and apple CarPlay and I think the touch display is easier to use than the iDrive wheel when stationary. When I drive I found the iDrive wheel easier to use.

The new car feels quieter and more solid. But I drove more than 100000km in the old one so that might influence the impression.

I really like the new IDrive. I just think it is much better than the Apple Carplay. I think Apple Carplay is probably a great feature in a Ford, Chevy or Hyundai or something but BMW has been doing this for years and Apple is now just getting into the car information and systems business, it is just not as good in my opinion.

I also thought the car is quieter but did not mention it as I was thinking it was just my imagination, so cool to hear someone else thinks so.

Did they add new languages like say Chinese? Mercedes have been offering that in their US-spec vehicle for years and it's great for a lot of folks I know that prefer something more native to them.

No. Asian markets still require separate hardware. Head Units can display characters, but clusters do not without different hardware.

Gotta check those rubber flaps with my dealer, surprised i do t have them. Noticed car behaves way better on slushy snow (when changing lanes):

Regarding the heated steering wheel message in the extended display....this is something that happens with "full reprogramming" of all F-series. I just took my 2012 F30 (328i) in for the update for BMW Assist (covered under warranty) and they had to do a complete software update/reprogram. Once they did that, I now have the "Heated Steering Wheel Activated/De-Activated) message in my extended display and that's on an almost 5-year old F series. Can't be done with simple coding though, AFAIK.

It was added in 2016. My 15 didn't have it either but the 16 did.

17 changes the dash display and moves the message to the right. I preferred the dash display in the 16 but seems like the changes were related to iDrive 5.0.
