Climate Control Issue
Sorry if this has been brought up before.
It appears that when my automatic climate control is switch on and I adjust the temperature to the desired setting the system does not seem to function but remains on the first setting regardless. For example if I want to cool the car down in hot weather the setting remains on the first notch with no visible or audible effect on the climate control. The same applies if I want to heat the car up automatically to the set temperature So my question is have I done or in this case not done a dumb thing or is there a problem with the CC? Photo attached of CC set at 19 degrees in cold weather but setting on first notch. Cheers

Thanks DCF15.
Sure I can do this manually but surely the fan speed should adjust automatically depending on how quick the cabin needs to cool or heat up otherwise what's the point in having climate control

If you set the "fan speed" in automatic it will use what it needs up to the maximum you have set - set it to minimum you will never get more than that - set it to maximum and it will go through the full range as needed.

I feel your pain . . . Its the nature of forums that when you ask a question or have an issue you will get many responses contrary to your opinion.
No question that you would think a 65k plus SUV would have a state of the art "automatic" ac system. I don't think its asking too much that when you set it for say 68 degrees it holds that temp. Having to constantly screw around with BMW's dumb fan speeds is a joke. It's been discussed in various threads and I've linked two of them below. Some close the rear vents to make it colder or blow harder in the front. I've owned many cars all with auto AC and this one is the worst as I'm constantly fiddling with the controls when you should be able to set it and forget it. My Wife's Audi Q5's AC is flawless. I've commented before that mine gets cold enough but I bought mine last feb and using it through the summer it does not get cold enough. You really feel the difference when you turn the AC on even in a cheap rental. Mine is black with black interior and I can hold my hand up near the windshield and feel the heat radiating off it as well as a very hot dash. I should not have to pay these type of dollars and then go out and put a coating or tint on my windshield (which is illegal in NY anyway above the OEM tint the glass already has). But you will see how many have chimed into the links below saying "they never had issues" with their climate control and they love it. I love the X5, but the climate control systems "sucks"! http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...light=worst+ac http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...light=worst+ac

Why isnt your AC light on in auto? Mine is.
Auto is dumb on these cars. Mine does this all the time just on the lowest setting even though its clearly not what you want. I have to go full manual. I gave up on the Auto as it was diverting air to the foot wells, and rear. When you press auto, it will turn back on rear ac controls and rear vents. Best settings, disable rear AC controls in iDrive. Press MAX AC, Then choose the chest vents only, set temp as low as possible (should be already with MAX AX button, adjust fan speed (Should already be max but I dont trust the damn thing) , press sync button. That's what I do every time and AC has been working great. Auto mode is what BMW thinks is best for the car, when youre the one sweating your butt off, dont rely on auto haha. Side Note: Auto in winter turns on my AC. I still havent figured when its freezing out below 32 F and snowing, and I choose 75F interior, it turns the AC light on.

It uses AC to dehumidify in the winter, most cars will intermittently turn on AC when heat is selected to prevent condensation on windows.

I don't even try to use climate control as I have found in the X5 and other vehicles that it's better to go manual. I may be different but if I want my cabin to be 65 degrees and it's been 30 overnight i DO NOT want 85 degree air blowing on me to get the cabin temp up to 65. Rather I'd want the system to blow out at my desired temp of 65 and I'll adjust the fans (honestly I may have fans blow at 70 for a few mins and then adj temp to 65).
What I find is that when I set the temp (NOT on AUTO) to 65 it blows out hot - too hot. On these very cold mornings (its been about 0 F lately) I find that setting temp to 62 is too hot and 61 is too cold...... no idea why there is such a big temp difference between 62 and 61. So I leave on 62 and then use the red/blue manual dial to adjust the temp down. These temps are in F and in cold weather. So in summary, I just want to be able to use the digit temp setting and have the system blow out exactly that temperature. |

Welcome to the world's WORST "automatic" Climate Control in any car I have owned or driven in almost 30 years!!!
I can have the fan speed adjusted/set to max. I can have the temp. set to 68F (19C), Climate Control set to AUTO...it can be 45C (110F) outside, my '17 X5 35d can be parked in the blazing, full sun, the interior cabin can easily be 60C (140F)...and the fu*king "automatic climate control" will literally just dribble. Now, the air will be very cold, but it just will not kick the fan speed up and blow with any power using AUTO. It drives me mad!! Unless you manually use Max AC, you will literally die in hot weather using Auto. So sorry. Climate Control woes on the F15 are VERY common and widespread...2014-2018 |
