Digital Speed Correction?
Hey guys,
Has anyone found a way to correct our speedometers? There are several threads for E90s but I haven't been able to find the correct settings for ours. My speedo is about 4-5% higher than actual speed. Here is a thread I was trying to use as a reference... https://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1696407 https://www.m5board.com/threads/corr...coding.430570/

I haven't seen that option. Do you have more info on that?

Yea I thought so too. Apparently not for the F15/F85 though.

Well, I coded it last night in my 18 3.5x and it didnt fix it completely. It did help some, my HUD speed is now right at 2mph over what my Garmin reads at 70mph+ which is closer than it was.

Speedometers are always programmed to read fast from the factory. IIRC its typically 7-11% fast from factory. This is to ensure that the vehicle should not ever be going faster than indicated with changes in tires, pressures, ect.
GPS speed readings are great if you are on straight, flat roads with no tree coverage. As soon as you start getting on hilly or windy roads, your GPS speed will start losing accuracy. GPS Satellites don't realize you're on curves/hills/mountains so it can't compensate for actual road speed, it can only calculate distance covered in X amount of time. If you're going downhill on a 10% grade, your ground speed will be higher than what GPS calculates you at because of your angle of descent. Now, how much will it be affected? No idea. |

i'm fine with it reading fast. less likely to be going too fast when i come up on a cop with his radar out.

Dug this thread up because I rented an X3 for a couple of days and the speedo was 4-5 mph high at highway speeds. Kind of ridiculous. My X5 is 2 mph high, and I've just learned to adjust for it when setting the cruise.
Is this just a BMW thing? I've never seen such a disparity in any other car I've owned. You'd think the Germans would be more precise. |

Funny, my 2015 F15 35d shows about 6-8 km/ hr lower than actual based on GPS…seems to be unusual and I'd like to fix it. I'll try the suggestion above. When I tried to address the same issue with my F31 I found the speed displayed was lower than what I set with cruise control (in both the cluster and HUD) by 1 km/hr…I didn't love that either. Maybe there's a better way.
